Overview

From Brian Wood (Demo, DMZ, Northlanders) and Ryan Kelly (Lucifer, American Virgin, The New York Four) comes Local, a collection of twelve interconnected short stories, each featuring Megan McKeenan, a young woman who sets out from Portland, Oregon with nothing but a rucksack and a bad case of wanderlust. These emotional vignettes each represent a year in the life of this young vagabond as she searches for a place to call home, both physically and spiritually. Set in twelve real life cities across North America, this painstakingly researched and meticulously illustrated volume collects for the first time the critically acclaimed series that writer Brian K. Vaughan (Lost, Runaways, Y: The Last Man) called "the sharpest slices of life the medium has ever seen."

Meet Megan, a selfish, self destructive girl who you will have mixed feelings for. She is also one of the most compelling characters ever made

Local follows one character (mostly) on her journey through a number of different cities in North America. Each move to a new city teaches the main character, Meg, new things about how to be a person in the real world. The drawings for each city do a great job of showcasing familiar local architectures. Local takes place in Minnesota, Oregon, Veremont, Arizona, Canada, New York City among others, and in each of these cities it feels like the author and artist have been to the location. It's a great book and an enjoyable read.
