It is not often that for $5.99 you can get your thinking changed- and confirmed, in the same book. A lot of us are frustrated at how we keep losing liberty, losing freedom, losing control over our own government. This book clearly shows that we mostly have not even be asking the right questions, so no wonder we are not getting the right answers.
I am more libertarian and more anarchist than the writer (and 99% of all humans), but I see that some framework needs to be created to stop power from becoming centralized over time. Without that, we are going to keep losing and not even know why. And when I say "we" I mean libertarians, anarchists, limited-government conservatives, and anyone who does not want their life and economy controlled from a single city far away. If libertarians and conservatives can work together on any basis at all, it would be around this philosophy of government.
What it does is examine every way the centralizers have consolidated power and come up with an antidote. If you don't make provision to shut door, the control freaks will get through it. The writer also makes a strong case that this was what the founders were trying to do, and they did it pretty well but it needs tweaking.

The premise of Localism is the de-centralization of government power, which was the original vision of the Founding Fathers of this country in order to provide the most freedom for the most people. Some holes have allowed vast encroachments of government power over time, and this book provides well-thought out solutions that have been proven necessary over time. Yet, it is not a "right" vs. "left" issue--but presents a much bigger picture that people throughout the politial spectrum can relate to. HIGHLY recommend the book! Was this review helpful?
