I have been wanting to read this book since I learned Alfred Hitchcock directed the movie version in the 1920's. An elderly couple, formerly in service, take in lodgers but times are hard and their future very dim. The arrival of a new tenant changes their fortunes but the eccentric gentleman's appearance coincides with a series of Ripper like murders. If one enjoys the "genteel" mysteries of the period this would be a nice rainy day read.

What lies within is a perfect example of what near destitution and a little bit of money at the right time, can make anyone look the other way to many people's destruction. Good Book!!!
