I was in college during the Bosnian war in the early 1990s, and I just recall seeing horrible images of it on TV. Now thanks to this book, I know how ordinary people lived through it. Amazing that people had babies, opened stores, had neighbors over for coffee, and even returned to Sarajevo, all while being under attack.
I read this whole book in 2 sittings. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down easily, since it's a very readable book about humans making the best of horrible adversity.
