Fundamentalists and literalists everywhere would do well to avoid "LOLcat Bible: In teh beginnin Ceiling Cat maded teh skiez an da Erfs n stuff." Somehow, a retelling of the Bible in lolcat would probably offend them, especially when they learn that the Jesus character is "Happy Cat." This retelling is not exactly faithful to the original works, but there is a seed of the Bible, e.g. Exodus 6: "28Itz so nise, da Bible say it twise: Ceiling Cat sez to Moses, 29'Tawk wif Pharo teh stuf Iz tellin yu.' 30Moses sez, 'I no can! I just m-m-m-meow like dis. Pharo no lissen to meh. He just covur eers and sing "Lalalala! Iz no heer yu!" (In the King James Version, Exodus 6:28-30 is: "28And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt, 29That the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee. 30And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me?" Since I am not terribly familiar with the language of KJV, I'll assume that "of uncircumcised lips" translate to "a stutterer," since Moses has been reported to have been so afflicted.) Those more interested in the New Testament will find parables told by "Happy Cat," as well as other biblical events. "The Parable ov teh Niec Samaritan Dood" begins, "Happy Cat sez, 'Wuns upon a tiem, a dood go from Jerusalem to Jericho. But OH NOES! Him get beeted up an robbed an stuf, an him almost ded. Srsly!" Of course, Happy Cat's words are printed in red. It might seem that a book like LOLcat Bible would appeal primarily to non-believers, but that assumption is erroneous. Those who have some familiarity with the Bible (and I am not saying non-believers don't) will get more enjoyment out of translations of stories with which they are already familiar. The humor is in the comparison. Pictures of cats and kittens illustrate LOLcat Bible, and in the lolcat tradition, they all bear captions. A white cat climbing a wall is accompanied by the words, "Dat nite, Pharo sez to Moses an Aaron, 'Awl Israel GTFO uv Egypt nao. Srsly.'" Like most versions of the Bible, Lolcat Bible contains an awful lot of things that are meant to be taken seriously. LOLcat Bible: In teh beginnin Ceiling Cat maded teh skiez an da Erfs n stuffs is a lot of fun, and-surprisingly-it may inspire many to dust off their Bibles, just to see the original texts BCLC (before the creation of LOLcat). It is unquestionably irreverent, especially the OMGs and WTFs, and not many churches will be tossing their traditional versions in favor of LOLcat Bible: In teh beginnin Ceiling Cat maded teh skiez an da Erfs n stuffs. Bottom Line: "Would I buy LOLcat Bible: In teh beginnin Ceiling Cat maded teh skiez an da Erfs n stuffs?" Yes. Having four cats, I obviously enjoy looking at cats (especially when they are still), and I find the text to be humorous, inoffensive (I know many will not agree), and a reminder of things I'd read so many years ago. While reading the online version of the LOLCat translation of the Bible, I was pretty excited to see that there was a paperback version, so I bought it. I was disappointed when I received it. I believed what I was purchasing was a close to complete paperback version of what was on the internet for free. Not so. There's a few stories in it, but that's it. Don't get me wrong, what is published is HILARIOUS. I've never laughed so hard. I just think that those thinking about buying this should be aware that it is a VERY limited version of what is online for free.

One may wonder why the author of the book is reviewing the book. Normally, I would shy away from any such thing, but the fact is that the LOLCat Bible is something that was a collective effort. I started the website, and along side thousands of other people, we translated the Bible into LOLSpeak. So much of this book was not, in fact, written exclusively by me (though I edited the entire book and made sure the lolspeak was consistent, and even wrote some of it for the book exclusively). Editing the book made me realize that it is, in fact, hilarious. Some people may feel daunted by the amount of text in this book that is in lolspeak, but once you get used to it, it is actually a breeze to read. Also, the book actually contains more pictures than the actual website (as a proportion of text) and all of the images were handpicked for this book from scratch. If you are a fan of LOLCats, you'll enjoy this. You'll get all the inside jokes and all of the references to your favorite LOLCat memes. From John 11:25-26, "25. But Happy Cat was all, 'No no no, I can has bukkit. An if yu beleev, yu too can has bukkit. 26. An if yu can has bukkit, yu can has no ded, if yu can has a beleef in Happy Cat. Srsly.'" How about Mark 14:22 "22. Wen dey wer nommin Happy Cat taek teh cheezburger an brek it, an he sez, 'Taek dis cheezburger an eet it, cuz dis liek mah bodi. But dun reely nom me. Just nom teh cheezburger an pretend it mah bodi. K?'" The pictures are also great. For example, one pictures shows two cats laying in the sun in a garden, and the caption reads: "Oh hai, yu can has frend. She liek yu but missin somefings." If you were someone who grew up with the Bible, you may appreciate the fresh angle this book gives the scriptures. Sometimes it even illuminates what the text may actually mean, which is really cool. I've had one seminary student tell me the LOLCat Bible helped him remember some of Bible for a test he was taking! The book itself is very well made. it is fully colored, glossy, and the images look crisp. The compact size makes it comfortable to carry around and show your friends, neighbors, co-workers, and maybe even your preacher. One of the coolest things is seeing how various people react to it. In addition, Happy Cat's words are printed in red, for easy reference. Overall, it's well put together and was a blast to both put together and read. I think every time I pick it up I discover a tidbit that really, honestly, makes me laugh. It's awesome seeing how creative people were in this effort, and it is a pleasure to see it in book form.

I've long loved the lol cats. I love the "i can has cheeseburger?" book and I love it when I get an email with the great lol cat pictures. I thought this was too much kitteh-speak and not enough pictures. Also, a little on the tasteless side. Wish I could say I liked it, I wanted to.

I have only read the sample and I think it has great potential. I am a HUGE LOLcat fan and find this great. But I feel the book is a bit too pricy and advise getting the sample first to decide wether or not you like it.
