In an era when putting together a useful travel guide is more expensive, but cost pressures push quality down, and when many travelers are relying increasingly on 'crowd sourcing' trip ideas through mobile devices, having a guide book that contains expert advice at your finger tips remains important, and this is what Lonely Planet attempts to accomplish with this Great Britain travel guide.

Lonely Planet Discover Great Britain guide is a good, solid general traveler resource for exploring Britain. The great value here is that the information is laid out in a trip centric, rather than a location centric way. That is, the reader should be able to use this to effectively plan itineraries, rather than to focus on specific locations, like you might with a DK travel guide.

Also, in an era when many published travel guides are struggling due to people starting to prefer crowd sourced information, or making decisions on the fly with mobile devices, this book has information directly from local experts, in tourist friendly places like Bath, Edinburgh, Liverpool, the Tower of London, etc. This is not a comprehensive work, but the user should be able to use it to plan first and second visits to the highest traveled places within Great Britain, and to begin to understand the local areas well enough.
