Though folk in northern England ...
Though folk in northern England are well aware of its charms, for many others southern Scotland is just something to drive through on the way to northern Scotland. Big mistake, but it does mean there's breathing room in the height of summer here, and plenty of peaceful corners.
This guide is the result of research by dedicated authors and local experts who immersed themselves in Southern Scotland, finding unique experiences, and sharing practical and honest advice, so you come away informed and amazed. This guide includes up- to-date reviews of the best places to stay, eat, sights, cultural information, maps, transport tips and a few best kept secrets - all the essentials to get to the heart of Southern Scotland.
Lonely Planet's Scotland guide is researched and written by Neil Wilson and Andy Symington.

Trying to read this on my iPad is impossible. The pages freeze all the time. You can't find what you want because it is poorly organized. So far I haven't been able to find an index - it freezes whenever I try to look up anything. Total waste of money and time. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
