For our last 7 trips, we've brought along the respective lonely planet guide book to ensure that we get the "local" experience. This book was very well organized. I loved the recommended top 25 things to see and liked even better, the highlights for each region. The "worth the stop" recommendations were very accurate. The overview of the hikes were all good. In addition to this guide, I highly recommend that you stop at the local park ranger stations as that they are also a wealth of information.
