Xandra Vardan thought life would be simpler when she accepted the goblin crown and became their queen, but life has only become more complicated. Everyone — vampires, werewolves and humans — wants the goblins on their side, because whoever has the goblins — wins.
Queen Victoria wants her head, Alpha wolf Vex wants her heart, and she still doesn't know the identity of the person who wanted her blood. What she does know is that a project from one of the 'secret' aristocrat labs has gotten free and she's the only one who can stop the perfect killing machine — a sixteen year-old girl. With human zealots intent on ridding the world of anyone with plagued blood and supernatural politics taking Britain to the verge of civil war, Xandra's finding out that being queen isn't all it's cracked up to be, and if she doesn't do something fast, hers will be the shortest reign in history.
The fantastic conclusion to the series that started with the spectacular undead steampunk debut, God Save the Queen and The Queen is Dead.

This was the third and final installment in The Immortal Empire series and I was so sorry to see it end. I actually had to take a break after listening to this series. I was experiencing a doozy of a book hangover and just wasn't quite ready to dive into something else. I am sure you know exactly what I am talking about.
I knew from the very beginning of book 1, God Save the Queen, that the author wasn't afraid of heading into the dark side and killing off likable characters. In book 2, The Queen is Dead, Ms. Locke ups her game and shows us the brutal underbelly of London and we get up close and personal with some of the worst parts London has to offer. In this final book, Long Live the Queen, we find out that what we thought we knew and what is really going on are two completely different things. There are so many twists, turns and misdirection, that I was completely fooled, right to the very end.
I am afraid to say too much for fear of giving a spoiler. So, let's just say that you need to read books 1 and 2 before you read 3 and that the ending knocked my socks off. 5 bloody brilliant stars!

Xandra Vardan development throughout this whole series is amazing. She ends up a very confident and much more mature woman. The story line is full of twists and turns that are not expected. At time I literally LOL! There is plenty to keep you amused and interested! Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

Long Live the Queen was a spell binding, mind twisting, macabre tale. This was my first trip into Kate Locke's The Immortal Empire world and she utterly captivated me.
Obviously, this book can stand alone. Although, I will be back reading the first two books in this series because I was entranced by Locke's writing.
We are catapulted deep into the dark aristocratic world, a world where werewolves, vampires and goblins rule. A world where humans, halfies (½ breeds) and pure bloods hold onto a tenuous truce. Each faction is vying for power and they are on the brink of a civil war. They have traitors in their midst and political mechanizations are afoot. Hatred and fear abound. This isn't light reading, these supernatural beings will eat you alive and the humans will kill without provocation.
Locke provides an intriguing mystery, riveting plot twists and turns and she humanizes what would otherwise be considered ruthless creatures. I loved this book. I was swept away into a world in which I cheered for the goblins. I felt the cold fury and blood lust of their queen and wanted revenge for the heart ache and attacks she endured.
Get swept away into Long Live the Queen, a fabulous steampunkish dark fantasy.

Long Live The Queen is the third and final book in The Immortal Empire trilogy by the fantabulous Kate Locke.
Unfortunately Kate's writing is so incredibly fantastic that I'd finished this book in no time. the house could have burned down around me and I wouldn't have had a clue, but it means no more of this unbelievably good series set in a richly detailed world with extremely likeable characters and a completely original and addictingly, intriguing plot.
So this is it, we've finally come to the bittersweet end, I really didn't want to have to say goodbye, I'm so invested in these books, this series and although I feel that the series ended perfectly, I still want more!
Maybe a spin-off, short stories or something, I need my fix!
Everything came to a close so well with no unanswered questions left for the reader to sit and wonder about.
I think that the addition of Ali was a stroke of genius on Kate's part, I thought that something might come out of Vandra's captivity in the labs, in the second book 'The Queen Is Dead', but not that, never in a million years would I have guessed that it would be a road that Kate would go down, but I'm so glad that she did, I feel that Vandra's needed an opponent who was worthy and at her level.
I was also very surprised by the reveal of the mastermind of all the experiments taking place in the labs, I really had no clue myself so it was a very good shock and totally unexpected on my part.
All of my favorite characters made their appearance in this finale, it should set a benchmark of how exactly to end a successful and popular series.
I implore all of you that haven't yet picked up these books to get on it because you are missing out!
This series is definitely one of my favorites and I will be eagerly awaiting whatever Kate releases in the future.
