I love the author for her Red River series, but this new trilogy just never went anywhere. Started out okay, but became a bit tedious. The final book of the trilogy was a rushed story, trying to wrap up the storylines quickly with no real thought or emotion. No climax, just an ending that left you empty and sorry you had invested the time to read the series.

Enjoyed the pace from lady to pauper....the relationships between all the characters was warming and surprising. Just couldn't put it town. Ordered the second book as soon as I finished this one. I recommend this to those who love to read about the trials of civil war families and Christian beliefs. Don't give up on this one.

Because I am from Kansas it was most enlightening to read the history of the settlers (African Americans) overcoming hardships during the trip to the Midwest and how they overcame the many obstacles facing them. I am also African American and was very proud of them.

Amazing book/series taking place during the Civil War. The first book started in KY at Twin Oaks Plantation. You will find strenght, romance, faith, hate, laughter, and tears. Read how this amazing family learns to live a different life style. I loved this series of books.

I got this from the library so I would not have to pay the ereader fee. It was a nice clean read. Well edited with some violence and a lot of religion. Book three of a three book series. Conclusion was okay. All three books only covered a total of ten years. There was still some threads left untied. About 300 pages. For ages 16 and up. AD
