Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - L. Mathison and Marilyn Courtot
What an exciting time as life unfolds its wonders through words! A young girl goes through a day reading to her Mother. She is able to read street signs and building signs. Her accomplishments include knowing the alphabet and demonstrating her skills. One spread challenges readers to find a word that begins with each letter of the alphabet after she has completed A, B, C on the previous pages. She writes her name and creates a card for her Mother. Finally, she helps her Mother with the grocery list and then reads a story to her. The illustrations are delightful. Our young girl is full of exuberance and so proud of her reading skills. The family is quite supportive and this book really is a winner for young readers. A Level 2 book in the "Penguin Young Readers" series, this reissued title had been designed for progressing reader and has a Guided Reading Level of "F." The opening page contains a note to parents and educators about the series and tips for making best use of the book. Reviewer: L. Mathison and Marilyn Courtot
