Children's Literature
This little girl might have put Imelda Marcos to shame. She loves shoesloafers, flip-flops, jellies and funny slippers. When she and mom go shopping for a new pair, this gal is not happy. The new shoes have laces and she does not know how to tie them. Kids will be able to practice right along with out star as she learns to create a loop, wrap the lace and tie her shoe. It doesn't work the first time, but after some practice she gets it right. Kids should heed the message here and note that it may take several tries before they also get it right. There is a note at the beginning that explains the various levels in the "All Aboard Reading" series. This is a level 1 book. 2002, Grosset and Dunlap,

K-Gr 1-A little girl loves all kinds of shoes-high-tops, flip-flops, jellies, wellies-all but the ones with laces, since she cannot tie them. So Mom shows her how, with the aid of step-by-step, numbered illustrations of a shoe with eyelets and two colored ties. The rhyming text is simple, with only a few words per page. Colorful, descriptive pictures add to the story, particularly the clear instructions for tying a bow. This book is a good addition to beginning-reader collections, and it is wonderful to have a shoelace-tying lesson as well.-Nancy A.
