More than 50 flaps in a five-page spread reveal the ins and outs of a varietyof truck types. Color illustrations throughout.
Children's Literature - Lori M. SaporosaOver fifty flaps reveal truck parts, information about who is riding in the truck, or where the truck is headed. A younger child could surely entertain his/herself by opening the flaps and looking at the pictures, while a slightly older child would also enjoy the descriptive passages. Trucks that children may see in their own communities, such as a fire truck or a recycling truck, are displayed in delightful illustrations that are large and easier for smaller hands to hold. Elementary teachers preparing lessons about community helpers, as well as on forms of transportation, would greatly benefit from the pictures and story. Teaching children that women can hold any job as a man can is evident as the book displays a woman firefighter and a woman engineer. Accompanying the story with the actual Tonka toys would add another level of interaction for the audience.
