Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Baby, the doll, goes everywhere with her family—the author, her husband and their three children. Baby is always seeing some interesting Jewish ritual object, at first alone and then in context of its use at a holiday celebration, in a classroom, or in the synagogue. Baby and the reader observe and learn through richly colored and detailed photographs in these settings of a modern, liberal Jewish family enjoying their traditions. Sometimes Baby is hard to find, but she's always there somewhere in the picture. A pleasant and realistic picture book for the very young, this is the fifth in the "Look What I See! Where Can I Be!" series. 2003, Platypus, Ages 2 to 6.

School Library Journal
PreS-Each day of the week, a toddler who has gone to the synagogue with her family falls asleep and wakes up to see a Jewish object, including a chai, a menorah, and a braided candle. The refrain, "Where was I?" precedes a page turn that reveals the child's location. However, the answer to the question is not always obvious. For example, one might see a kiddush cup in a variety of places, not just "By the chuppah at a wedding." In addition, the simple text is choppy and uninspired. The back matter, which includes explanations of the holidays, ceremonies, and objects mentioned in the text, is most meaningful to adults. A full-color photo appears on every spread, and the book's design works well, with brightly colored backgrounds and large type. Jewish schools and libraries in great need of titles of this type may want to consider this marginal purchase.-Amy Lilien-Harper, The Ferguson Library, Stamford, CT Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.
