Overview

Betty Lynne Davidson is planning her husband’s funeral while overlooking one thing: he’s not dead.

When Suzanne Mullins, forty-two, gets the call from her father to come back home to Texas because her mother has gone off the deep end, she knows it will mean having to look at the faulty foundations of their marriage as well as her own. Betty Lynne has always upheld a perfect facade of home and family, and Suzanne has followed suit. But her life with husband Mike and son Oliver is cracking under the pressure of its own unspoken history.

Looking her past in the eye once and for all, Suzanne hopes that trusting in God’s love and mercy will set all of this craziness straight—even if it does mean having to watch her father give the eulogy at his own funeral.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

Traveling home to help her ailing mother, Suzanne Mullins will have to face the problems in her own marriage and deal with the past she has hidden for so long. Featuring eccentric folks, humor, and an interesting story, this is another winner from the author of Elvis Takes a Back Seat.

    Excellent Reading

When should adult children meddle in their parents' affairs? This story seems humorous on the surface, seeing that the mother of the main character, Suzanne, is planning her father's funeral. Doesn't sound funny? Well, Suzanne's father is not dead. Actually, this is not a comedy. As usual, Leanna Ellis uses what seems to be a humorous, unthinkable situation to delve deeply into great personal spiritual truth situations. When Suzanne returns to her parents' home to try to help out, she is forced to face some situations in her own life that she had tried very hard to forget. Leanna develops her characters well and weaves the story line so that it follows along and the reader is anticipating what might happen next. And all the way until the end of the story, it looks as though things will fall apart. I would recommend this book to anyone, particularly if one is familiar with any of the author's previous writing.
