Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
A former missionary, Lutz has seen too "many women face [a] sense of worthlessness as they grow older." In an effort to imbue Christian women with a sense of purpose to carry into old age (termed "finishing well"), she presents the stories of revered "elderwomen," some biblical, some contemporary. A simple message is diffused throughout: "be faithful and responsive to whatever God asks of [you] to the very end." Thoughtful, well-written passages are, unfortunately, countered by others that read like schmaltzy Chicken Soup; also, Lutz often relies on other writers' powerful words. Only for large Christian collections. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

WHAT DOES THE REST OF YOUR LIFE MEAN?

I HAVE JUST CELEBRATED 50 YEARS OF WORKING AND HOPEFULLY WILL BE RETIRING BY THE END OF THIS YEAR. RETIRING IS A SERIOUS AND SCARY STEP FOR SOMEONE THAT REALLY DOES NOT HAVE HOBBIES OTHER THAN WRITING. THERE IS ANOTHER LIFE FOR EVERYONE AFTER WORKING BUT IT IS UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL TO TRY AND FIND OUT WHAT THAT LIFE WILL BE. ALTHOUGH I HAVE NOT READ THE BOOK AND PLAN ON PURCHASING IT THE TITLE IS INTRIGUING. WHAT IS IT THAT WE CAN DO TO GET US PAST THE ONE LIFE WE ALWAYS HAVE KNOWN AND PROGRESS INTO ANOTHER? HAVING A SPOUSE OR A LOVED ONE WOULD MAKE IT EASY BUT I LOST THE LOVE OF MY LIFE 10 YEARS AGO AND IT HAS BEEN QUITE A LONELY ROAD. LIVING IN CALIFORNIA HAS HELPED BUT I WILL BE MOVING TO MISSISSIPPI TO BE NEAR MY SON AND ACTIVITIES ARE LIMITED. I WILL BE QUITE INTERESTED TO READ THE BOOK AND GET THE AUTHORS POINT OF VIEW ON EMBRACING MIDLIFE AND BEYOND. BY THE WAY I HAPPEN TO BE IN MY 70s BUT STILL VERY ACTIVE.
