Chapter One

Love

Standing on a hillside trail
One fall afternoon so frail
We watch the sun slowly sink
The sky turning a fiery pink
The heavens seem to blaze
Hills slowly covered in a haze
A reddish flame in a quiet sky
Two lovers hand in hand stood by
With setting sun, no word was spoke
Their love they both quietly evoked
This the end of a wonderful day
With each other they would stay
In each heart their love would burn
Their love grew stronger with the return
Of each new day and rising sun
They would become more as one
Shearing these moments on hillside trails
While love cast a heartfelt spell
My love and my light
Sweet Belinda we share this night

Wade fishing

Wading in a stream
With fly rod in my hand
Sometimes is like a dream
In a strange magic land
Water running at my feet
May flies swarming all around
Fog rolling in like a smoky sheet
Not hearing a single sound
Time it seems to stand so still
With each cast I make
Concentrating taking all my will
Not making a single wake
This to me is paradise's gate
Time of spiritual bliss
With passing time I wait
Wading in a stream
With fly rod in my hand

Old Souls

Sitting on a park bench on a sunny day
To a young man I happen to say
Good day to you are things alright
Behind his eyes there shined a light
I knew this was an old soul with a new face
The way he talked of the place
We talked for a while of this and that
Of what happened, where we sat
Walking the world are people you see
They are a lot like you and me
They have been around a long time
Souls a lot like yours and mine
Old souls with new young faces
Past lives in their eyes have left traces
Many a time they have walked these paths
This is neither the first nor the last
Again, this way they will see
Maybe by chance with you and me
Knowledge beyond years they carry
In life after life they will tarry
Old souls with new faces alive again
New life with old eyes begins and end

    A Good Day To Die

We fought the battles under darkening sky
Wondering if today is a good day to die
We fought from the time of the rising sun
Until end of day not knowing if we had won
I see the torn ground soaked with blood
As I pull down my feathered hood
They came to us with outstretched hand
Seeking for them a free homeland
Finding ours they looked in greed
Which brought us to these bloody deeds
They came as friends that sunny day
I think it was in April or maybe late May
We took them in as our brother
Sharing the secrets of our earth mother
They saw only the wealth to take
    We stand in battles wake
Not knowing if we had won
    Silently here in failing sun
The Final battle soon will come
Standing here listening to the beating drum
Waiting for them the time is nigh
We say our prayers to Gods on high
As the sun breaks through the darkening clouds
Their war cries come echoing loud
Crashing like thunder from the sky
I look at my brother and hear him sigh
We shake our head it is a good day to die
In our village we know our wives will cry
But our memories will never fade
Today history of our tribe was made
For in this war the end is near
In our hearts, there is no fear
For this is not our journey's end you see
It is the start of a new one for me

Wild Seeds

Wild seeds planted in the ground
People looking all around
Minds are fertile, ready to seed
Fallow ground where there is a need
Flowers, weeds, and vines grow
Never knowing which we sow
Flowers grow near the ground
Weeds and vines grow abound
From a distance flowers not seen
Unless your eyes are keen
Weeds and vines grow so tall
Sometimes nothing else seen at all
Life's seeds are the same
Good and love the flowers grow
Vines and weeds are all folks know
Do not dwell on what chokes out the life
Be like the suns sweet light
Look on both the good and the bad
Happiness, trials and the sad
Look for the flower in someone's past
These are the memories that should last

    Alone

    Here I sit all alone
Where have all my friends gone
    Where did my lovers go
    In my heart I know
I look in my heart what do I see
A vision of myself looking at me
My heart is dark with so many scars
They number the same as the heavens stars
All the times I took a chance
Even just asked for a dance
Each time I have loved and lost
Not knowing how much it would cost
Years have come and years have gone
They have left me to sit alone
Friends and love ones did depart
Taking a piece of my heart
To a much better place, they say
As I brush my tears away

    Chaos

Chaos has taken over my day
No matter what I do or say
It changes which ever I turn
Up or down I cannot discern
It reminds me a kids kaleidoscope
don't know if I can manage to cope
My head is a spinning round and round
Only thing to catch me is the hard ground
The things I see are strange to me
Where I was at is where I should be
Tossed like a ship on a large wave
Lost in a psychedelic old cave
Looking for the balance that I have lost
Cannot remember where it was tossed
So if you see my sanity lying around
Pick it up and turn it in to lost and found
    Sanity is at my fingertips
    Oh, darn it just slipped

    Always Wanting More

Always wanting more than is in your reach
Learning the lessons life is willing to teach
    Reaching for that brass ring
Hoping your life will truly sing
But the songs that you sing are sad ones at best
Never singing the happy ones like all the rest
Always wanting what you cannot have today
Never giving up and trying to find for us a way
Leading with your heart but blocking with your chin
Knowing that there is no way you can win
You do all you can a friend at the very best
Never feeling the tenderness that's given to the rest
Hoping for a finger's touch, a fleeting gentle kiss
All That touches deeply in your heart you dearly miss
Knowing that you are only seen as a friend
Telling you no, trying not to offend
Hoping each day that something will change her mind
That you will not be pushed to the side and left behind
You know that her heart is looking for love
While you send a prayer up to heaven above
That she will finally see you as more than a friend
So you wait each night and listen to the wind
Waiting for her to call on some dark and rainy night
Asking for you to come, just to hold her tight
To protect her from the demons that comes with the rain
Once you are there in her arms you pray to remain
To hold her through the dark to ease her fright
Be her lover all through that warm strange night
But knowing that a call will never come to me
It will go to someone else, you see
Because in my heart I love you dear
A feeling I hope to you is clear

Am I worth the Time

You have told me we are friends
To you it seems to depend
If someone else is in town
Or if someone else is around
I am there when you are in a bind
Always first to come to mind
You call me when you have had too much to drink
Never when you want to do something do you think
Should I call him he is always there for me
Then you call someone else you see
So am I worth your time, are we friends indeed
Or am I just the one you call when you are in need
I want to be your friend, you see
If only you wanted me
So maybe I'm not time well spent
Am I not worth your time, here is a hint
One day when you think to call
I won't be there for you at all
Paths may change
I may be hit by a train
You will look around and wonder why I do not call
Because you need me after all
Take the time invest it well
With life you can never tell
Friendship is worth more than passing delights
That sparkle in you life like twinkling lights
They will use you and then they are gone
Leaving you sitting at home all alone
You will then think of me and pick up your phone
But it will be too late, I will be gone

Autumn Sun

As the autumn sun began to set
On that night we first met
My hopes were high the cool clear night
Hoping that for me you would be right
My long brown hair blowing in the breeze so free
With the stars glittering off the ocean just for me
Like dragon scales from heaven fell
Bidding a message that all is well
Calls of the creatures from the sea
Autumn sun seems to hang for me
From the wind I could hear the songs
Of my soul mate for whom I long
Like the orca I would wish for my life-long mate
For now my heart tells me to must hesitate
The flames of love in them I see
Like the dragon fire that lives in me
My hope is that we will be consumed
That in our hearts love will bloom
Like the mystic stories of our past
Will our love forever last
Or will it be like the leaves of autumns past
Could it be more like spring into summer time
Blooming and growing like this heart-felt rhyme
For us to know which it will be
Will take time and care, don't you see

    Battle into the East

    The sun began to rise
To the east all turned their eyes
The battle to come would be here soon
Spelling in blood some of our doom
Across the gentle field they came
Armies of men that had no name
War of two families the reason forgot
Some say for honor others not
As they march across the battlefield below
Singing songs of battle they march so slowly
Their widows-to-be with tears on their face
To cry for them was no disgrace
With pipes and drums they march to war
To fight and die until they were no more
Battle rages with sword and shield
With pike and club for no one yields
Men lay dead with open eyes
As ravens circle on currents that rise
The blood of many was shed today
While those that lived walk away
To come again to fight once more
    In this grisly gore
Time to come but unknown by any
A battle again will be fought by many
Some reason there shall come a blow
The reason it happens no one knows
But like the battle fought here today
Soldiers will die; it's the warrior's way
