Editorial Reviews

VOYA
For months, Vampire Prince Darren Shan has been on a mission to kill Steve Leopard, the Vampaneze Lord and Darren's greatest enemy. Unable to shake the knowledge that either he or Steve must rise to become the deadly Lord of the Shadows and lead the world into possible devastation, Darren suffers from nightmares and frets about his humanity. He is now living back in his hometown, where his adventure began at the Cirque du Freak. During Darren's travels, Steve has amassed an army of humans and vampaneze and is now sending them to harm Darren's friends and family, including a nephew Darren never knew he had. No one but Steve can kill Darren, but Steve is determined to make winning the war as difficult as possible for Darren and his comrades. Even after eleven books (of twelve planned), this series still has great momentum. The gory, heart-pounding action sequences-a staple of this series-do not deflect from Darren's personal growth. Darren falls in love and experiences some very painful losses, but readers who pick up the books for the blood and guts will not feel dragged down by the human or vampire relationships. There is one very disturbing murder near the end of the book, but it is a necessary plot point to fully determine that there is no hope of redemption for Steve. Fans of the series will anxiously await the final volume. Gr 5 Up-Part-vampire Darren Shan is traveling again with Mr. Tall and his Cirque du Freak in the 11th and penultimate book in the series. When he returns to his hometown, Darren would love to see his family and friends, but he knows it is too dangerous, especially at this point in his battle with the Vampaneze. Steve Leopard and his evil minions manipulate events to bring about a fight to the death between Steve, the Lord of the Vampaneze, and Darren. The winner will determine the fate of vampires everywhere. The story, fast-paced, violent, and gory, is filled with anger, revenge, and death, with a touch of redemption and a cliff-hanger ending. Readers of the series will anticipate the conclusion, whether they catch the foreshadowing or not. This book is not for the young or faint of heart, but others will eagerly devour it.-Elaine Lesh Morgan, Multnomah County Library, Portland, OR Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Excellent page turner with great twists

Darren Shan is a vampire prince who at the time is traveling with a "freak show", the show has stopped in Darren's hometown and it brings him nothing but trouble. Several years ago, Darren faked his death to join the show so he cannot interact with his childhood friends without ruining destiny. Unfortunately, one of Darren's friends, a world famous goalkeeper, stops at the show and meets Darren. When he invites Darren to his game, a mass murder breaks out. Darren chases after the killers then is shot by their leader's son, and eventually rescued. Darren is faced with a big decision at the end of the story, will he accept the dare?

I liked everything about this book, the twisting plot, the psychotic villains, heroic sidekicks, and the detailed setting. My favorite part was the ultimatum at the end of the book between Darren and his archenemy.

I recommend this book to anyone who likes action books, mystery books, murder novels, or even science fiction. It is a great book for any reading level or interest.

    HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TO TEENS

I would highly recommend this series to teens who like fighting fantasy and scary stuff like vampires. This book has some cursing so littler kids wouldnt be very good and it has a lot of vilolence and blood.

    Dumb characters

I cant believe that Steve did not realize that if he wiped ouut all humans, he would die as well as the rest of the vampaneze. Doesnt he realize that if he kills all humans they will have no source of blood to drink. The book wasgreat although the characters had no common sense.

    I Also Recommend:

    Good book!

This is an amazing book that really begins to wrap up the entire saga. It's fast paced and full of dark humor and tiddle waves of shock when it comes right down to it! There is no disappointment with this book and once your done you have to go right out and get the next book in the series!

    Horrid!

Are you all serious???? This is probably one of the worst books ever! I hate the series! Don't even say it's good anymore! The end was horribly sad, just enough so that the wind was knocked out of me and I was left disappointed. Oh and Darren Shan (not the one in the book) is a monster.

Sorry to see the end of the series

This series about a budding boy vampire has kept my 12 yr. old grandson anxious to read. He's reading this during free time at school, on the way to school, after school.... at every opportunity. I'm happy he's reading. It has helped his vocabulary, his reading skills, his ability to focus on what he's read and it's a story he's fascinated with.

    Great for young teen boys!!

My 14 year old son read the first of the Cirque Du Freak Series and then couldn't stop. He and all of his friends are totally hooked on these books. They read each one in a day or two, and then pass it on to the next. My son was never a reader, but he is hooked. The books are intense, fast-paced and a little scary. My husband and I are also reading the series and enjoying every minute of it.
