Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanna Sciarrotta
In the heavily anticipated seventh book in the "Keys to the Kingdom" series, Arthur Penhaligon, Leaf, and Suzy are still struggling through the events put into motion on Monday. With the house falling apart around them, each has his or her own role in trying to stop Lord Sunday and those who would cause their demise. Arthur's story, of course, takes precedence as he is the one Lord Sunday is after as the evil entity tries to persuade Arthur to hand over the keys and Atlas. In a race against time, as Nothing threatens to destroy everything in the Universe (think the Never Ending Story), Arthur and his friends must put everything back in its proper order and Arthur, now more Denizen then human, must find a way to save everything and everyone that he loves. The beautifully crafted fantasy world and epic battle that Nix creates has a following all of its own. Those just getting in on the story should definitely start at the beginning with Mister Monday and read right on through. With so many characters and ulterior worlds, it is nearly impossible to pick up the story without the proper background. Even readers who completed the series might need a refresher before beginning this last installment, as Nix rushes head on into the story with Arthur and the gang already in motion as the story begins. Like some of the previous books, this one seems a bit all over the place at times and takes full attention in order to keep people and locations straight. It is not a book that can be read over a lengthy period of time, which would lead to much rereading and questioning. The ending, however, will be appreciated by those who have come to love Arthur Penhaligon, and the conclusion to this science fiction/fantasy series will satisfy long time readers.
