Los Lonely Boys are another entry into the rock & roll family band tree. The Garza brothers -- Henry, Jojo, and Ringo yes, that is his real name and he is the drummer -- like the Everlys, the Louvins, the Davies Ray and Dave, the Youngs Malcolm and Angus, and many others, are forging a new sound from the various roots traditions in American music. Rooted in rock & roll basics such as Chuck Berry, the Beatles, and Ritchie Valens and the Latin rhythm-inspired sounds created by the Santana band, the brothers Garza, who hail from San Angelo, TX, also employ the wondrously soulful and raw Tex-Mex textures created by Doug Sahm and Freddy Fender. All Music Guide - Thom Jurek
Los Lonely Boys' self-titled debut on the Or label was recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Studio in Austin and features Nelson and Reese Wynans guesting on guitar and keyboards respectively on "La Contestacion." But there is plenty to the sound of Los Lonely Boys; their stew is one rich not only in history, but energy, songwriting craft, fine singing, and amazing playing -- check Henry's riffing, phrasing, and soloing on "Crazy Dreams" and one might think the ghost of Stevie Ray Vaughan is visiting Albert King's. "Dime Mi Amor," with its funky minor-key chord voicings dredged through a solid Latin rock structure with shimmering son rhythms and conjunto backbeats, is stunning in its complexity, yet is as accessible as any pop song. Driven by Henry's fluid and floral acoustic work and shot through with a soulful Tex-Mex backbeat and vocal harmonies that touch upon the originality of Cesar Rosas' and David Hidalgo's from Los Lobos as well as the Everlys, "Hollywood" is not merely a referencing of source material, but a genuine way of combining ideas to create a new sound, one that is not only inherently, but actually the Garza Bros. As evidenced by songs like "Real Emotion," "More Than Love," "Onda," "Senorita," "La Contestacion," and "Velvet Sky," los Lonely Boys reveal that they are tied to tradition but far from stuck to it; their songs are first-rate, crafted with nuance, grace, and grit and wash over the listener like a late-summer dance party under a full moon. This glorious, dark, and steamy diamond,. rooted in innocence and raw rock & roll beauty, is most definitely a contender for debut album of the year.

A Brave New Sound For American Rock And Roll!

With The Rock En Espanol Era revolutionizing the way rock and roll is played in Latin America since the late-1980's, a new form of Latin Rock was emerging in the U.S.A. and right in Texas in the early-2000's. The sound was Texican Rock and the band that brought it to a worldwide audience was Los Lonely Boys. By successfully borrowing some music from the traditional Texican Music circuit that have been popular among the Mexican-American community in the Lone Star State (and even the surrounding
U.S. States or South Of The Border) and owing their own incluences to the great Santana and Los Lobos, Los Lonely Boys certainly have studied their musical art quite well, sharpen up their creative and artistic skills, provided another dazzling sound for the American Hispanic Rock Circuit, got plenty of experience and made a name for themselves on the rock scene. Showcasing their hard-driving Latin rock sound, lyrical harmonic solos and a highly energetic electric guitar artistry, the band made it's way into the international spotlight in 2003 when they released their highly praised self-titled debut CD. Featuring a solid track list including classic hits like Heaven, Dime Mi Amor, Crazy Dreams, Hollywood, the romantic Vanilla Sky, the instrumental favourite Onda and Real Emotions, Los Lonely Boys would make them one of the most highly anticipated and much-beloved rock bands in history. As part of a small, but steadily growing number of Hispanic rock acts making it big in the United States, Los Lonely Boys gave a fresh, vibrant new voice to the Latin Rock epertoire. However, when it comes to the best that Latin Rock in America has to offer, I do hope that Lost Lonely Boys' Texican Rock and several other Hispanic acts like the crossover rock and roll of Asbury Park's own Desol help inspire a younger generation
or the next generation of Hispanic youngsters to develop an interest in Latin Rock in just the same way that Soul Music did for African-American youth in the 1960's and 1970's. So if you want to know what the future holds for Los Lonely Boys, we will be hearing a lot more from this wonderful and exhilarating rock band for a very long
time--and we like to wish them the best of luck for the band's meteroric rise to international fame, because they fully deserive it.

Imagine a mix of Santana, Southern Rock, and Latin ballads

If you can imagine that, it will give you a pretty good idea of what is on this album. I bought the CD after hearing the song "Heaven" on the radio, and was genuinely surprised to see that they are Latin--from their voices I thought they were some kind of a neo-Classic rock band. Their voices will remind you of Southern Rock (classic rock) tunes from the past, but they also have instrumental songs like Santana, and some romantic songs that are a mix of Latin ballads and rock. It's an interesting combination, all in all.

Finally, the world gets to know real musicians.

It's great to see this band go from opening band in little bars in Austin to national recording act. They put as much effort playing for a room of 10 back then as to the thousands now. I had hoped great things would come of them and now the local bands are hoping for a chance to open for them! The CD is great but I hope they make it past the curse of one hit wonders. The song "Heaven" is good but the band as a whole is even better.

    Fantastic

I picked up this CD after my boyfriend told me he liked the song "heaven." We let it play thru the cd & found that there wasn't a song we didn't want to listen to. I absolutely love these guys & "my guy" constantly dedicates track #4 to me. I can't wait for them to come in concert to Connecticut. We will be the first in line to buy tickets!! Thanks for the great music!!

    Absolutely Wonderful!

This is a great band. The song "Heaven" has made happy since the first time I heard it. There are influences throughout the album that are apparent, and some that are just felt. I hope these guys are around for years to come!

    Great Band of Brothers

CD is great. Vocals and instrumentals are outstanding. Band performed at outdoor festival May 31st in Lafayette, Louisiana and they were outstanding. Too bad harmonica playing is not on CD as it was at concert. I'd recommend CD.

Best Band in a long time

I just discoved these guys from Texas (heck yeah) about a month ago. I heard the song Heaven and fell in love with their sound. I bought the CD and I keep playing it over and over. I think they have more talent than a lot of young bands out there. I think they're going to make it huge! They're wonderful!

    Like a Mexican Burrito!

The Garza Brothers have taken the best influences from the best, including their dad, Richie Valens, and Stevie Ray Vaughn, blended them, added their own unique style and offered the end result up like a spicy Tex-Mex burrito, full of great guitar and lots of heat, and lots of heart. These guys are on their way!

    Wow!! Must have!!

I concur with another reviewer here... the last time I was this excited about new music was when I first heard Stevie Ray Vaughan. The amount of chemistry in this trio comes along very rarely... Rush, ZZTop.... the Garza brothers fill each song to overflowing with hooks and amazing vocal harmonies while keeping the material fresh and not overdone. You can imediately tell that Henry Garza's guitar is his best friend. While his style is obviously influenced by Santana and SRV, it never sounds like he's copying or relying on his influences. Ringo and Jojo on drums and bass are the heart and soul of the band. The three brothers have been playing music together since they were small children and the chemistry connection in the rhthym section grabs you and draws in. I cannot say enough about what I have heard and seen from this group. I would be surprised if we aren't still listening to them play their music thirty years from now. Los Lonely Boys also have a great stage presence... thier Austin City Limits gig had standing ovations throughout their four song set. Buy the cd... you won't regret it!

    Absolutely Fabulous!!

Wonderful rhythms - very eagles-like soft rock with a mix of some santana-like latin rhythms. A serious must have! I bought the cd about 2 weeks ago and haven't been able to take it out of the cd player since. The vocals are amazing as well, these guys have some great chemistry. You won't be disappointed with your purchase!

    who are these guys?

After seeing los lonely boys live I can tell you that these guys are on the fringe of being a great band. Great Santanaesque guitar, good harmony and very entertaining live. I had never even heard of them before the robert randolph concert (los lonely boys opened) but afterwards I would almost say that los lonely boys stole the show.

Soulful Feel Good Music esta Bueno!

This album from the Garza brothers reminds me of the first time I heard Stevie Ray Vaughan or when I heard Los Lobos for the first time on the radio. I knew that I was going to like everything they did from then on. You can feel the musical soul eminating from every song. There is not a contrived or phoney note on the entire CD. It's apparent Los Lonely Boys love to play and you're gonna love listening. But you better buy more than one CD, cause your friends'll be kipe'n it soon as they get an earful. Enjoy!
