Children's LiteratureThe Rotten School motto is "Growth, Learning, Pizza", and their crest contains an apple, presumably rotten, with a worm emerging from it! Is it any wonder then that their football team, the Fighting Apples, is incapable of winning a game and is at the bottom of the league? Bernie Bridges is the quarterback for said loser team and is about to shake this up, literally. The girl who has a major crush on him, correction, a monster sized crush on him, is going to be his secret weapon. Her name is Jennifer Ecch and Bernie, not so affectionately, refers to her as "Nightmare Girl". Luckily for him, she will do just about anything to be near him, including being part of the football team. After a stupendous winning streak, the team realizes that the championship game will pit them against the "Bone Breakers" from the Huge Boys Academy! What will they do now? Lots of gross-out humor for those who appreciate it. This would be a great book for reluctant readers in the recommended age group. The author lives in New York City and has written many creepy, crawly books, including the wildly popular "Goosebumps" series. This is the fourth installment in the "Rotten School" series of books. Recommended. 2005, HarperCollins Publishers, Ages 8 to 12.
