Losing Him, Gaining You: Divorce as Opportunity by Corbin Lewars is a book that is helpful to those who are going through the process of a divorce. No one wants to end a marriage, but this book comes in handy to those who are going through that low phase in their lives. The author's personal experiences, tips and guidance help readers connect with the book on a personal level. The book is a must-read for all those going through this challenging phase, and what makes it a good read is because it is non-judgmental and realistic. The book has tips on how to handle your life and the lives of your children during and after the difficult period.
Divorce is hard but the author shares the views of many women who agree that they are happier divorced and they did the right thing by leaving their marriages. The book says that, more than the divorce, it is angry, resentful and unhappy parents that cause harm to their kids. The book does not recommend divorce, but it is a helpful book for those who have decided to break away from their marriages and start life again. It is a comforting and easy read. Corbin Lewars covers the topic extensively and touches on all the angles and details that need to be looked into in a divorce. The book teaches you to trust, cherish and focus on yourself and growing and healing, instead of focusing on the past and ruining your future.

This is the Self-Help book to get through, and beyond your divorce. Corbin Lewars offers advice on all of the stages, from anger to depression to feeling lonely…even about getting back to dating. In her book she references a lot of other books or people that have spoken on the subject of divorce. So, in essence, she offers you a huge tool box to help you get through both the good and bad times of the divorce process.
I have read several books on grieving, and found this to be quite similar; but with the twist being divorce. I am married, but walked away from Corbin’s story with a lot of quotes and knowledge for my own life. We are all going through different journeys, and it is surprising how we can often relate to another’s. I found hope for divorce…and I hope other people will pick up this book to help them get through the steps.
What was most profound to me was her statement that your children deserve to have two parents who are happy. Coming from divorced parents, this rang so true for me! People often forget just how important it is.
I really feel that this would be a great tool for someone considering or going through a divorce. Corbin leaves nothing out, and offers you several other reference books/tools.
I will end this review by referencing one of her statements:
“Mowing your own lawn is very rewarding!”

Losing Him, Gaining You is an honest guide through divorce. The author talks about her personal experiences, and a step by step approach to divorce. It’s easy to read – the writing isn’t overly descriptive or lyrical – and well-researched. It offers both practical tips as well as some tips on how to deal with divorce emotionally.
I’ve never been through a divorce, but from what I gathered from friends and relatives who went through it, it’s definitely not easy. Especially not if kids are involved. This book can be a good guide for people going through a divorce, and in particular about how to handle the kids, and how to react to their questions.
It’s a solid resource for people going through a divorce, or contemplating divorce. Either way, it won’t be easy, but at least this might help. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
