Overview

Grad student and cocktail waitress Evelyn Merkholtz has plenty to deal with. Too much to deal with. So, when her runaway best friend calls with a mysterious and urgent request to join her in Scotland, she is secretly more than happy to drop everything and oblige.

She's faced with an ancient curse, an adorably hunky villager, and a super hot (but possibly murderous), Highland warrior from the 18th century - and realizes that getting burned at the stake is a really bad way to get out of writing her thesis.

The one star is a default setting as I wouldn't give it even that much. One more author to avoid. The book lost me at "I'm a grad student with an important paper due in three days so of course when my friend who has not bothered to contact me for months leaves frantic messages on my cell (all in one day's time, while the lead character is at work - at a place called Hoochie Mama's (!)), I call her right back as soon as I access the messages. To find out she wants me to drop everything and fly to Scotland the next day. At 5:30 AM when I've already worked all night, mind you, albeit on her dime -- and she doesn't tell me why." (Would a real person even have time to pack?) The protagonist accepts this without question, doesn't insist her friend tells her just WHY she needs her RIGHT NOW, doesn't wait until the paper gets turned in at the very least, and essentially acts like a doormat. Were this a horror movie she'd be the idiot donning the scanty negligee and going into the dark basement without so much as a flashlight. Which is when, were it paper, I'd have thrown the book across the room. Did not bother to read beyond Revelation of Problem -- and you shouldn't even waster time reading that far.

Absolutely love this book. Cannot wait to check out the rest of the series. I found it on I love vampire novels site, it was free sounded interesting because I love time travel books. This did not disappoint me.

I do not care for short novels, the paranormal, time travel or romances. BUT.......I loved this book. It had murder, violence, steamy sex, mystery, a witch, spells, no cursing or religion, a spooky crypt, cursed items, magicc spells, secret passages, hidden rooms and the afore mentioned items. With all the elements, I do not like in a book, present, it seems I would not like this well written ,short novel, but I liked it a lot and wished it was longer. I am looking forward to the next book in the series. For ages 18 and up due to the sreamy sex and violence. AD

I would rate this and more of the series higher if they were full books. They aren't but a few short chapters with no real ending, just cliff hangers.

If you like Outlander you should read this series of books

I have read a book by this author and read pleasantly surprised to find another free book. I am glad I didn't buy one 'cuz this one was a thorough disappointment. It is slow moving with wierd time travel episodes. If it wasn't for the fact that I have the need to complete what I start, I would have put aside this book. I JUST COULDN'T GET INTO IT! I won't be buying a book by this author.

Funny, sad, fast paced plot. Loved this book. Kept me all night. Could not put down. I look forward to reading all of this series.

Book is slow and frustrating to read. Reads like a movie adapted to TV, cut up to get the commercials in...Did not finish the story.

Reminded a bit of a less developed (and shorter) Susanna Kearsley novel. Time travelling induced plot holes galore but still a fun read. Not sure if I'll continue reading the series but so far so good.

This was a very good story, nicely written and somewhat hard to put down. I will look for other books written by this author.

I loved the characters, that I cared about; the plot, that kept me immersed in the book to the end; and the ending that is going to make me get the next book in the series. I am kind of a details kind of person, and wish that I could be more comfortable with how the "paranormal" part of the story worked but... I guess that I will have to make my own "details".

Having read a lot of Highlander time travels, I found this to be a fresh take and had some surprises. It was a free book but worth paying for and I will be checking out more books by this author!

It was a little hard to get into at first but after you finally get to the meat of the story it is a real page turner. Hated the ending though. I hate when a book ends with an entire new list of questions.

Real Reader Made it to page 79 it was very slow. And the characters were dull and un life like not to mention a little stupid I thought it was a romace. But atpage 79 no body was even thinking about romance.
