Overview

Serious country fans know that "Lost Highway" is a Leon Payne-written Hank Williams classic, but even though Bon Jovi's 2007 album shamelessly trades on iconographic country imagery in a bid for a genre-skipping crossover hit, it's designed for those country fans who don't much care about Hank's legend (never mind knowing anything about Leon Payne). Lost Highway has little to do with any country prior to Garth Brooks, a move that makes sense since Garth was the gateway drug to country music for old Bon Jovi fans in the '90s. In that regard, it makes perfect sense for Bon Jovi to refashion themselves as a modern country act, because their heartland anthems are as thoroughly middle American as any country artist, and in 2007 country was at the core of mainstream pop music; in other words, the band's fans already have made the crossover, so they wouldn't see this crossover move as crass, just as catching up. But when it comes right down to it, Bon Jovi's self-styled country album has little to do with contemporary country in 2007, either. Despite duets with LeAnn Rimes and Big & Rich, despite the occasional fiddle or steel guitar, Lost Highway recalls nothing so much as a latter-day Bon Jovi record in how it balances fist-pumping arena anthems with heavy doses of sentiment. Not long after the buried fiddles on "Lost Highway" fade from memory and enough time passes to excuse the bad Toby Keith knockoff "Summertime," it's virtually impossible to distinguish this album anything after 1992's Keep the Faith. Which isn't necessarily bad, mind you -- Bon Jovi has a flair for commercial craft, knowing how to hit the sweet spot between the mundane and melodic, and there are times on Lost Highway where the group does so again. Ironically enough, what hurts is when they really try to fit into the conventions of country -- usually on the rockers, as on the aforementioned "Summertime" and the even-worse Big & Rich duet "We Got It Going On," which manages to cram in every sports-bar cliché into an unpalatable mess, a talent that also emphasizes Jon Bon Jovi's unfortunate tendency to rely on hackneyed imagery -- but when they're just being the smooth, efficient pop crooners they are, Lost Highway is as good as, and no different than, any Bon Jovi album since Keep the Faith. Which may not make it as adventurous as it appears, but it should still be satisfying all the same to those loyal fans.

I've heard the single, seen the music video and the sound is great. But I have a feeling Bon Jovi is trying to appeal more to a country crowd rather than the teens of today. It's also sad to hear that Richie Samborra is in rehab.

Any genere he sings is a hit for me.Sounds good at whatever he sings.

Once again this band has shown it can do anything they set their minds to, they can sing anything. I have heard the entire album and it rocks. They rock and rule.

I have been a devoted fan of Bon Jovi since 1984. After carefully listening to the entire album for a third time, I am completely blown away by this masterful creation. Their musical craftsmanship and evolution once again sets them apart from the rest and validates this band as a blue-chip that raises the attitudes and standards in the artistic community. Their quintessence of what made them popular and has kept them on top of the music charts for over two decades now without losing one single fan, but gaining thousands of new ones instead every time they release a new album, is intact and palpable in every astonishing song of Lost Highway. The multifaceted-song approach developed in Lost Highway caters to even the most unyielding tastes in music. Even if you were born in the 90’s and have never heard of Bon Jovi, or if you are not a fan, this is a definite must-have in your music collection. ‘Summertime’ and ‘I Love this Town’ are the perfect summer anthems: funky lyrics and contagious beats. For a powerful good old rock n’ roll night, crank up the volume in your I-Pod and transport yourself back to the 80’s with ‘We Got It Going On.’ If you are in the mood to be introspective about love while enjoying a glass of red wine, the soulful ballads ‘Make a Memory’ and ‘Till We Ain’t Strangers Anymore’ will make you feel as if you were drinking Barolo and/or Barbaresco! The stars in the sky will also seem closer and brighter than any other night to the sound of ‘Seat Next to You’ and 'Everybody’s Broken.’ All vocals and backing vocals are fantastic. Jon’s voice is better than ever. Get in your car, turn on your CD player, drive hundreds of miles and DO get lost in the highway listening to this superb CD! I am and continue to be ecstatic and feel so privileged to have been able to enjoy and maintain Bon Jovi’s musical tour de force as the “soundtrack” of my life through the passing years. Although I am 37 now, I can’t honestly wait to see what this “soundtrack” will sound like when I am in my 60’s. I am certain that they will be around and beyond that time! –Wm. Reyes-Cubides

I love the country vibe with the rock undertones. It's difficult to top "Have a Nice Day" but all their music is pretty fun to listen to and great to work out to.

I’ve been a fan since Runaway first played on MTV…over the years I have both loved and hated some of their stuff….Lost Highway is EXCELLENT! Some fans are complaining it’s “country”…I disagree and I love country music! Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Toby Keith, love ‘em, Bon Jovi doesn’t sound like any of them to me!!! … I Love This Town, has “Jersey” written all over it! I can clearly see Jon and the boys doing this one down the shore at the corner bar with all the locals singing along! (In fact, I’m no fan of Bruce (Springsteen) but it kinda reminded me of some of his work, I dunno, maybe it’s a JERSEYthing…lol) We Got it Going On! CRANK IT!!! You can not sit still while listening to this one…something in your body will move to the music, I don’t care if it’s your little toe, you have to be dead inside not to at least toe/finger tap to this one! Summertime…..Lost Highway, they are all GREAT! Anyone passing by me driving on the way home from work yesterday heard that song! Not only that song they heard entire CD for that matter. HAND was good, LH is better! I’ve never been more pleased with a CD by these guys as I am with this one! Not a single bad song on the entire thing. It’s got your rocking tunes, your ballad-types, it’s got it all! BUY IT! You won’t be disappointed!

Lost Highway may be a little bit country but the boys from Jersey keep their Rock and Roll roots! From the up beat crank it up "We got it going on" to the sexy love balad duet with LeAnn Rymes, this CD should be considered one of the Best to hit the shelves this year!!!

I recommend this cd. I think it showcases Richies and Jons harmonizing vocals. It is a sentimental record similar to 7800 degrees but with a bit of a twang--"Rock a Billy". I love it BUT I also love the edgier sound from their past records. I am a die hard fan of the band and will always support their projects and will be open to their new sound. They write so....... well and I think that is why the fans--old and new will relate to this record.

I'm a fan from the beginning and I don't think this one will be my favorite, but anything by Bon Jovi is great. I was worried because I am not a fan of country music but there was only one song that I found had too much "country" influence. Lets face it, Bounce and Have a Nice Day are hard acts to follow.

This CD rocks! I absolutely love Bon Jovi and think they are a class act. Jon has the best voice I've ever heard and the band is incredible! These guys have kept it together over 20 years and they keep cranking out the hits! Love the CD and Love the Band! Bon Jovi Rules

This album will definitely generate many number 1 hits for the band. Jon's song with Leanne Rimes is a true Jon "classic" ballad. This album is must have for every Bon Jovi fan and country fans who may never have bought Bon Jovi before.

I am truly impressed with Bon Jovi's music ability. I have been a fan and now an even bigger fan with this Lost Highway release. What a great bunch of songs and I am sure quite a few number 1 hits as well! Definitely recommended.

Lost Highway is such a Great CD, I can pick out parts that remind me of country artists such as Rodney Akins, Toby Keith, and Kenny Chesney, but yet with a Bon Jovi style to them, I need music to motivate me to get up and move and when I used Lost Highway it kept me going for the first 4 hours of my day, and I even found myself dancing across my back yard which doesn’t happen all the much anymore. I really did enjoyed every song.

Once again, Bon Jovi has proven they can do anything. Great sound and Bon Jovi attitude!

Lost Highway is just another amazing collection of songs from Bon Jovi. The best is that they continue to write their own songs, they haven't gotten stuck in a rut sticking with a specific genre of music. They tell their stories with lyrics and music that suit the feeling of the song. I've got them all, and I haven't been disappointed yet. Thanks again for something that I not only looked forward to, but enjoyed listening to several times over on just the first day. (I wore out Have a Nice Day!)

Country or their kind of Rock, Bon Jovi delivers! There are so many good songs on this CD. I hope people don't dismiss this with out listening just because they think it is a Country Album. "Make A Memory" is so haunting and really grows on you. My favorite song on the CD is "Ain't Strangers Anymore". That songs has big hit potential. I highly recommend this CD!

As a long-time Bon Jovi fan, I was a little concerned about how this album was going to turn out. Fortunately I did not need to worry. This album is excellent. It still sounds like Bon Jovi, just with subtle country music influences. Lost Highway, Whole Lot of Leavin' and Any Other Day are some of the best songs the band has ever written. You can't find a better singer than Leann Rimes, so I really like the duet with her. This is a great summertime cd to listen to while driving. Enjoy.

BonJovi has put out another great album. As always they have done it with stlye. They once again have taken the road less traveled and once again poven they have it going on. Jon's voice is outstanding. I love listening to this album. If you like music you will love this album. The whole band is incredible.

I've been a fan of Bon Jovi for many years but this is really one of the best albums that I've ever heard from them. There isn't one skippable track on the entire album. Honestly I have to say though that as good as "Make A Memory" is, it certainly is not the best track on the album, in fact in my opinion it's probably the worst, even though once again it's not bad. The country sound also isn't that much of a shocker for any Bon Jovi fan. This album really isn't that much of a departure from their previous albums. Still Great.

I'm not saying Bon Jovi is bad but their past stuff is much better. They started out as a metal outfit and they were good. They switced over to country-metal and they were also really good. Even up till Have A Nice Day they were doing well. But this is more country than metal and to tell you the truth they were better as metal.
