Overview

The stakes have never been higher for the young Blue Bloods of Manhattan. After their brief yet beautiful bonding ceremony in Italy, Schuyler Van Alen and Jack Force depart for Egypt, desperate to find the elusive Gate of Promise before Jack must face his twin, Mimi, for a blood trial. A blood trial that only one of them can survive. But everything Schuyler thought she knew about the gate turns out to be a lie, and they soon find themselves ensnared in a deadly battle against the demon-born. Schuyler and Jack take up arms, only to realize that there is a much graver threat simmering in the Kingdom of the Dead.

Meanwhile, determined to save the only vampire she still loves, Mimi has followed Kingsley Martin into Hell. With the help of her new human Conduit, Oliver Hazard-Perry, Mimi makes a bargain with the Queen of the Dead that she may soon regret. When the time comes to choose between love and revenge, both Mimi and Oliver will learn the true meaning of sacrifice.

Confronted by danger, betrayal, and loss at every turn, the Blue Bloods must find the will to fight—and love—another day.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Paula McMillen
This is the eighth of the "Blue Bloods" series and readers should not attempt to jump in without having read the previous books. Schuyler Van Alen and Jack Force are now "bonded" which also means that Jack has betrayed his twin sister (in this incarnation), Mimi, who was left standing at the altar, so to speak. He plans to return to Manhattan and face the blood trial to determine which of them will survive, but Schuyler is sure he means to simply let Mimi win and persuades Jack to accompany her to Alexandria in a continuing search for the crucial Gate of Promise. Oliver, who is still in love with Schuyler, is now Mimi's familiar and has agreed to accompany her on a trip to Egypt from where they will enter Hell in search of Mimi's true love, Kingsley Martin. Little does Oliver know that Mimi intends to trade his soul for Kingsley's. The third set of interspersed chapters are told from Allegra Van Alen's point of view as she reconnects with Bendix Chase; readers unfamiliar with the series will only gradually realize that Allegra and Bendix are Schuyler's parents and this part of the story is taking place decades earlier than the other two story lines. Also, because there is no ordinary passage of times in Hell, it is difficult to reconcile the two contemporary series of events as related by Mimi and Schuyler. Characters are not particularly well developed and the language is occasionally awkward. Perhaps fans already enamored of the characters and familiar with the labyrinthine machinations to destroy the vampires will gloss over these flaws. Reviewer: Paula McMillen, Ph.D.

    Disappointing all around and unprofessional

The first few books in the Blue Bloods series were amazing, but I found the last two terrible. First of all, there are spelling and capitalization errors. This just goes to show you that authors push themselves to hard to pump out books before they are ready, and to me, its unprofessional and distracting. On another note, the tone of Schuyler and Jack seems to have changed. They are way to formal and have lost their personalities that captured our hearts in the first books. Where have they gone? Why are they so boring? Again...I hate to say it but the author clearly is pressed for the release of too many books. The only story line I found interesting and not over done were the chapters on Allegra Van Allen. I would have liked to see more on that. Unfortunately, if your like me and have gone this far in the series, you feel like you need to see it through - maybe if I go in with low expectations I won't feel so disappointed.

What the heck with books being turned into graphic novels!?

Alright. Not my favorite book, took forever to get to the action, um I wanted more jack and Sky time I mean thats what made me fall in love with the series. I hate how the books are being dragged out. I definitly dont like that we have to wait over a year for the new book. So its an ok book, wouldnt highly recommend it. Thanks for reading. -MVM(:

Mimi, along with Oliver, travels to the underworld to retrieve

Mimi, along with Oliver, travels to the underworld to retrieve Kingsley. Schuyler and Jack search to find the keeper of the Gates of Promise and Allegra/Charles/Ben love triangle back-story is revealed. All three of these stories alternate throughout the book.

Since it had been a while since I had read the previous book, and I will have another wait for the final book to come out in Jan 2013 , it took me a few chapters to get caught up into the story again. But after I slowly began to remember the story..(only thing I seemed to remember form the last book was Jack and Schuyler bonded)...I had a hard time putting it down. I was mostly looking forward to the Allegra chapters and devoured those up quickly.

Melissa De La Cruz did a super job weaving the story together and I can't wait to read the conclusion to this series!

    Honestly... was expecting better.

I have always been a fan of de la Cruz and her Blue Bloods Series but, book # 6 was a bit disappointing to me. It just seemed a bit stale compared to the rest of the books in the series although I have noticed that after the first four they began to go downhill, in my opinion, although I still find them to be quite good and a fun read. It may just be because I have grown out of them as I began reading them as a teenager and perhaps should not be reading these today! I feel like many of the characters have lost my interest in a way and are not as complex as they once were. I also felt that the story seemed somewhat rushed, the details were left out and I think the book suffered from that. It seemed to me that there could have been so much more to it. In any case I am looking forward to reading the final book in the series because once you start you have to see how everything ends!

I found it lacking and confusing. My questions from the last book were still not answered. Now we have to wait until 1/13 for the finale..

    Loved it!

One of the best books of the series. It keeps you on the edge of your seat with every page. Melissa shows you a side of each character you've never seen before. She has definitely out done herself. I am even more excited for the last book now. Thanks Melissa for another great book in an AMAZING series!

    The Time Travel: Five

Back to Equestria, PTS was excessing to be worried. Rosebud sighed and drank her tea. They are in castle of Red Crystal Spell. Rosebud was youngest of all. She said," It was too long. I was not able to active the tree and heart. Long time ago." PTS nodded, sat on the pillow. "You are right. It is been too long." Nitro was chrugging to the cafe. Since it was so modern. So he tried it. He gagged and barfed front on Firework. Firework looked at him as if the look can kill him. Nitro laughed nervouly,"Um...SORRY?" Firework was still upset but forgave him. PTS was looking the red crysatl heart. She whispered,"We have to pass off our magic to someone." Rosebud sighed," we are not moral. We are immoral." <p> At Canterlot High, Twilight Sparkle was smiling as Two ponies transhumans. Twilught aaid,"Hello. You are my former friend' s friends." They both nodded and wxplianed the problem.
