Overview

The Lost Soul label's eighth volume in the Lost Soul Oldies series includes 16 soul nuggets mined from (probably) some of the most obscure labels that existed during the 1960s and '70s. The recording quality is rather scratchy, and the accompaniments are slightly unprofessional, but many of the songs here will sound great to soul fans (or obsessives) looking to hear something new after yet another block of clichéd favorites on their local soul station. There's little in the liner notes about the sources or origins of these groups, including the Determinations ("Girl, Girl, Girl"), Royal 5 ("Peace of Mind"), Henry Lumpkin ("If I Could Make Magic"), the Hot Tamales ("Mr. Starlight"), Teddie Morrow ("What's Your Sign"), and the Enchanting Enchanters ("No One in This World").
