In the book's multi-cultural family-action plot, Louie Llama is a take-charge guy who rescues his baby sister, Lamita, from Goliath, a vicious kidnapper with a magical ring. (The illustrations are fantastic in supporting the story.) In the real world, Louie Llama already has a track record of "Helping Kids Read and Stay Drug Free." Today, Louie Llama's marketing and public relations programs are focused on raising funds from BOOK SALES and tax-deductible contributions to develop his new interactive (tutoring/mentoring) web site for schools, families, and kids. (1) Dr. Eric Holt, Ph.D., formerly of Georgetown University, Washington, DC: "It's an English-Spanish reader aimed at promoting cross-cultural communication and social responsibility and activism." (2) Walter Claros, 12, 7th grader at Mattawoman Middle School, Waldorf, Maryland: "The story in Louie Llama's bilingual reader is fun and entertaining. It helps kids reading and learning English and Spanish." (3) Ronald McDonald House, Hines, Illinois: "The need for a book like this is amazing. I wish I could have captured the expressions on the boys' and girls' faces as they read in ourspecial library." (4) The California Department of Education, Sacramento, California: "Congratulations! The review panel found your material…in compliance with social content requirements of Education code…(Gr. 3-7)."
* Note: In 1997, Louie Llama conducted a successful "Drug-Free Slogan and Poster Contest" with hundreds of school kids at Tayac Academy (an elementary school), Fort Washington, Prince George's County, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. One of the kids' Seven Drug-Free Winning Slogans, "Be Like Shaq—Don't Take Crack!" Louie Llama was named in the County's Board of Education's Certificate of Recognition presented to the students at Tayac Academy for their "winning" drug-free slogans.
*Note: Louie's new, wonderful, English-Spanish read-along audio tape (for his book) will soon go on sale—adding a key, repetitive, listening-learning tool for foreign-language study. The sale of read-along tapes will help in developing Louie Llama's future web site. PLEASE HELP
