Part of the "Childhood of Famous Americans" series, this biography is "fleshed out with fictionalized details, and conversations have been added to make the stories come alive to today's reader..." Consisting of fifteen chapters, only the first few really fit the above description of "fictionalized biography." The parts of the book dealing with Louisa's life as a young author and adult read more like a typical biography, enriched by many quotes from primary sources, such as letters and journals. The author does an especially good job connecting Louisa's most popular children's books, such as--Little Women and Little Men, to her own life experiences, opinions and concern. Black-and-white illustrations and a list of her children's books are included.
