Overview

It was a hell of a long shot....

CIA assassin Fortune Redding is about to undertake her most difficult mission ever--in Sinful, Louisiana. With a leak at the CIA and a price placed on her head by one of the world's largest arms dealers, Fortune has to go off-grid, but she never expected to be this far out of her element. Posing as a former beauty queen turned librarian in a small bayou town seems worse than death to Fortune, but she's determined to fly below the radar until her boss finds the leak and puts the arms dealer out of play. Unfortunately, she hasn't even unpacked a suitcase before her newly inherited dog digs up a human bone in her backyard.

Thrust into the middle of a bayou murder mystery, Fortune teams up with a couple of seemingly sweet old ladies whose looks completely belie their hold on the little town. To top things off, the handsome local deputy is asking her too many questions. If she's not careful, this investigation might blow her cover and get her killed. Armed with her considerable skills and a group of elderly ladies the locals dub The Geritol Mafia, Fortune has no choice but to solve the murder before it's too late.

Meet the Author

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jana DeLeon was raised in southwest Louisiana among the bayous and gators. Her hometown is Carlyss, but you probably won't find it on a map. Her family owned a camp located on a bayou just off the Gulf of Mexico that you could only get there by boat. The most important feature was the rope hammock hanging in the shade on a huge deck that stretched out over the water where Jana spent many hours reading books.

Jana and her brother spent thousands of hours combing the bayous in a flat-bottom aluminum boat, studying the natural habitat of many birds, nutria and alligators. She would like you to know that no animals were injured during these "studies," but they kept makers of peroxide in business.

Jana has never stumbled across a mystery or a ghost like her heroines, but she's still hopeful.

She now resides in Dallas, Texas, with the most spoiled Sheltie in the world.

There are very few authors who can make me laugh out loud, but Jana DeLeon is one of them. In Louisiana Longshot, she hits just the right combination of twisted mystery and hilarious characters. Fortune Redding, the CIA agent who is hiding out in tiny Sinful, Louisiana, is a great combination of uptight overachiever and zany eccentric, while her sidekicks, the senior citizen posse made up of Ida Belle and Gertie, are just ridiculously funny. I found myself snorting and laughing out loud many times throughout the whole book. Like with many of DeLeon's books, I found this one to be too short. Not because the story needed more to be told, but just because I wanted to spend more time with the characters. It's a fun read that's hard to put down, and I'm looking forward to the next situation these three get themselves into.

This was a highly enjoyable read. Well written with both humor and a good story. I would recommend for anyone who appreciates 'light' mysteries - no sex, no gore, minimal foul language.

I have read 5 of this authors books and they just get better and better!! The ghosh in laws books were good, but this one had me giggling then laughing out loud! ms Delong reminds me of Janet Evanovich, in the Plum series as she has wacky characters and even wackier situations. Having lived in the Miss/louisana area for 12 years i can picture every scene. Can hardly wait for the next one to see what happens to the spunky senior ladies and maybe the deputy and Fortune?? Keep em coming Jana!

I didn't really expect much for 99 cents. Actually purchased it under curiosity. Found my self enjoying the humor and predicaments. Since I have been reading pretty intense murder mysteries I enjoyed the lightness of this murder mystery. Think I'll get the next one in the series.

I really like this story until they dig out a corvette and talk about getting in to the back seat! Corvettes are the only american sports car made and they are only TWO Seats and have no back sets. The author should have checked the car out before putting it in her books.

Very good book. Sometimes I do judge a book by its cover and I was expecting something a bit more "girly" from this one, I'm glad that I was wrong. There is a lot more grit and substance than I was expecting, really something to sink your teeth into. Some of the characters are a bit extreme in their character, but that seems to add rather than distract from the depth of the story itself. Not a light piece of fluff nor a dark and brooding  tale, just a good solid mystery, highlighted by interesting and often amusing characters with secrets in the shadows. I found it to be a great read on a rainy day at the campground.

The idea of a female assassin hiding out in south Louisiana seemed a tad far fetched to me, and I almost did not give her a chance. I am glad I did. The author did an excellent job of developing some very interesting characters and situations. After reading this book, I went on to read two sequels and am awaiting the release of the fourth book in the series next spring

Really enjoyed this book - very different setting with a heroine really out of her comfort zone in a small southern town. I laughed out loud!

Entertaining characters, well developed story line. A plausible story line with meaningful end. I so enjoy "Southern" character stories, but often the actions of the characters and the story line are a little hard to believe. This could have really taken place! It also has a meaningful ending that makes this story really relavant and sticks with the reader.
