An epic story of love and forgiveness, suffering and restoration

When her beloved grandfather Isaac dies, Dinah must follow his final command: travel to Job's household to marry his son. After Job's world comes crashing down, Dinah finds herself drawn to this great man brought low. What will she risk to fight for his survival?

Mesu Andrews weaves an emotional and stirring account of Job and Dinah. Love Amid the Ashes breathes life, romance, and passion into the classic biblical story of suffering and steadfast faith.

"In Love Amid the Ashes, Mesu Andrews takes a biblical tale of great tragedy and skillfully weaves beauty and love amid the loss. Job's story brought vividly to life!"--Jill Eileen Smith, bestselling author of Michal and Abigail

"Mesu Andrews has skillfully brought the Old Testament story of Job to life in Love Amid the Ashes. Throughout this book she explains Job's faithful adherence to studying the teachings of El Shaddai. Could not put this down!

I actually borrowed this ebook from my local library, and when I was not able to finish it within the lending period I had to purchase it, as there were 6 others ahead of me on the waiting list and I could wait no longer! Glad I own it now, as it has been chosen as my book club summer reading selection. Very well written and and also well researched. This got me looking into the book of Job further - you will not be disappointed.

Captivating Biblical Fiction - Highly Recomended

Love Amid the Ashes is the debut novel of Mesu Andrews. From the beginning, it is obvious that Mesu has steeped herself in the study of the biblical text, and has done careful research in order to bring a fresh perspective on the sufferings of Job.

At first, I wondered about a love story which takes place in the midst of Job's incredible pain and suffering. But Mesu has done justice to this story, parts of which are well-known, and others, little known. She has carefully woven together a story from details in the Bible, together with possible scenarios. Readers will be wanting to re-read the Book of Job as well as the relevant chapters from Genesis to see how the storyline flows.

Love Amid the Ashes is a story for all time, as it deals with the ageless themes of forgiveness, shame, love and romance, family dynamics, and suffering. Faith shines brilliantly through words and actions. Characters come to learn of El Shaddai, and this knowledge deepens throughout the story. As the reader, I was caught up in the dilemmas of the characters, and felt their mounting tension. I found the hope-filled ending satisfying.

Mesu adds the story of the hoopoe bird, now Israel's national bird, to tie the story line together. She also includes the relevant biblical text at the beginning of each chapter. Author's notes explain how the book came to be written.

This is one of the first historical fiction books set in biblical times which I have read. I am very impressed with this debut novel, and look forward to what is yet to come from Mesu Andrews!

    Excellent read!

Great characters. Loved the descriptions, both of characters' emotions and the surroundings. The author did a good job of bringing the Biblical characters and her fictional characters together and, with good research, enhanced our appreciation of the story.

    A good read

Even though it is based on the Book of Job, it has fictitious, characters and is very entertaining. I found myself going back to the Book of Job to see how it compares to LOVE AMID THE ASHES. The characters have personality traits that are complex and relatable .

I have not read the book; however I would like to address those

I have not read the book; however I would like to address those that are praising the authors research. Most biblical scholars believe that Job is actually pre-patriarch - one poster states amazement that they "interacted". There is nothing in the bible that suggests that they did. As another poster mentions; while Jobs children die - there is nothing to suggest that his wife did also. Nor is there any mention of Dinah after her brothers kill her husband. THIS is a work of FICTION. Don't get your doctrine from it. That being said, it may be a perfectly lovely story.

I recommend this book if you want background on where Job lived.

If you know the story of Job from the Bible, this is a good read as to who the human culprits are behind the attacks. As for Dinah, a blue eyed blond in the Sinai desert?? Don't think so. Which of Jacobs wives or concubines was European? A red head like Esau would have been more acceptable.

Other than this attempt at (what), I am enjoying the book.

Good book, if you haven't picked up your bible!

This book was written based on the bible... so shouldn't you read the bible before writing a story like this????? This book was well written, and from my point of veiw it will not dissopoint if you pick it up. HOWEVER THAT IS AS FAR AS IT GOES! This book takes a bible story and adds a great deal of fiction. Do not be decieved. This story is practically a fake, its near impoosible to have happened. Read the book of Job and don't be swept up in this story...andrews took a lot of fictious liberties that make this story cute but a lie. Want proof? Heres a big one...The bible never says anything about job marrying again...it NEVER MENTIONS THE DEATH OF HIS 'SITIS' WIFE EITHER! Good book? Sure. A truthful bible romance? Not.

    This is an amazing story.

I absolutely loved this story, a novelization of what happened to Job in the bible. Though it may not be historically accurate, I loved how all the characters of the bible were intertwined and how a lot of scripture was used to guide this story. It has definitely given me more of a heart of Job and what he went through and the cultural difficulties women faced in bible times. Very engaging story, I did not want it to end!

This story is such an amazing look into the story of Job. It had both fictitious and factual characters, but brought a whole new level of understanding on the humanness of Job, and how the people around suffered as well. You may well see yourself inside one, or all, of these characters as you read through this. I read late into the night...I couldn't put it down.
