This is not an epic love story. I'm gonna go on a rant here, because I paid for this book. If it were a free read, I would have tossed it and let it go without having to feel like I should warn people.

    1) Classic example of "telling" and not "showing." There were scenes that could have been real powerful; when Nellie first meets Owen's family. It was glossed over and I didn't get to feel it emotionally.
    2) A lot of scenes were repeated because of the POV switch. When something happened to one of them, the other would tell it also.
    3) There wasn't enough backstory, no depth to their emotions. Nellie is supposedly on the outs with her family, but there's no real explanation. Some things were far fetched: Nellie's mother invites her cheating ex and his wife, her ex best friend, to Christmas dinner. Why? I get that her mother is supposedly a big b****, and this scene was to enforce that, but it made no sense. We already knew her mother was a snob. And the kicker was when her parents exchanged gifts with her ex's family, but not with her. Okay, really now? Seriously?
    4) The whole "I'm sending a message you should wait until marriage" bit.
    5) I LOVE LOVE LOVE Whip It, so I was intrigued to get another Roller Girl book, but Love and Skate fell flat in this area too.
    6) Random bosses do not give you a business. No matter how close you become. There wasn't really a great explanation for this either.

This book needs work. Lots of it. If you like sticky sweet love, I guess this book would work for you.

Awesome love story!  I just couldn't put it down!  I love how the author brought Roller Derby into the limelight.  I really loved most of the characters, there were a few you just couldn't like.  Nellie and Owen's story together, as well as they're individual back stories, were told really well.  If I could say anything negative it would be that I wish there were more about Nellie's family and the people in her past.  Although those are most of the characters I didn't like, I think they would have made for some more really intense scenes.  I will definitely recommend this one and am excited to read more from this author!

Loved this book! Thought I might be a bit out of my element here, with a non-paranormal book, but these two are anything but normal. Nellie is this sexy, tough derby girl that won't let anyone in. She may really be a sweetheart on the inside, but she's never gonna let anyone know that. Dying your hair blue and rockin' the roller derby is a great way to rebel! And then there's the bad boy with the tattoos - Owen. He's also determined not to let any girl into his life after his past pain and rebellion. He has some serious issues to work through and doesn't have time for any distractions. But love doesn't really work like that. I love both of these characters because they are the perfect stereotypes for wild rebels but underneath they are so much more than that. I don't wanna say too much, so just go get the book and read it!!

When I started this book, I did not know what to expect. I have not come across a book about Roller Derby before, and well…..
I am more than happy that Lila suggested this as my first read when I asked her for her suggestion. This book had me all kinds of happy inside.
I mean who doesn’t love a tough badass chic who is on a roller derby team and then you can’t forget Owen who is this big strong tattooed and pierced softie.
Nellie & Owen make one hell of a team in the romance and love department.

Nellie is not your typical college student. She has bright colored hair & is marked by tattooes.
She is not wanted or loved by her family and has had her heart broken by her ex-boyfriend and her once best friend.

Nellies schedule is pretty busy between going to college, working at a book store and being the captain of the Derby Team.
She does not have time for love, or so she thought until that day in Lit class when she felt the eyes of Owen on her.
When she turned and looked at him for the first time it was like the universe stopped spinning for a moment.
She could not believe what or who was looking at her from across the aisle.

Owen spends most of his days working in his families restaurant at night and attends college during the day.
He has the love and support from a family that only wants to see one another happy. He has had his heart broken in the past and it has been haunting him for the last few years.
He has not been able to let anyone in, that is, until he sees Nellie.

Can these two people learn to love and trust someone new, and can they finally learn to open up and love again?
These two broken hearts can find love and let the mending happen if only they will give one another the chance.

Nellie and Owen have both been hurt by their ex’s. They start a relationship and try to move on with their lives. Can you really move forward if you haven’t forgiven the mistakes made in the past? Mistakes of the past threaten to ruin their future. Can they let go of the past and move forward or will the betrayals in the past come back with a vengeance and destroy their future?
“Love and Skate” was a good read and I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a funny and light romance book to read. I look forward to reading the next book in the series “How It Rolls.”

Let me start by saying that I'm not a big roller derby fan. I've never even seen that Drew Barrymore movie about it. I read Perchance by Lila before and loved it, so I decided to read this book. I'm so glad I did. It was such a cute new adult romance!

I loved Nellie and Owen. Both of them had their own pasts and it turns out everyone needs something different to overcome them. Nellie is tough on the outside, but is really seeking the same love and acceptance that we all are. Owen has his own demons in his past, but also has the one thing Nellie envies-a loving family.

This was a fairly upbeat book for the most part. It wasn't weighed down with gritty situations. The story dealt with problems that are more common and relate-able. In fact, I loved the characters so much that I cried whenever something bad would happen, which wasn't often.

I really loved this book as much as Perchance, if not more. It was one of the first clean new adult books I have read and Lila did a fantastic job pulling it off. This is a series you won't want to miss! I give this book five glittery stars for knocking my socks off!

Both Owen and Nellie have been hurt by someone they cared very deeply for. And each carry the hurt still years later. But getting past that hurt will be harder on one more than the other. Dive in and see a beautiful relationship tested over a short time. Dive in and see if true love really does conquer all. Dive in and fall head over heels in love with these amazing characters Felix has brought to life.

If I am ever granted 3 magical wishes in my life...I know that one of them will be to have more time so I can reread certain books. Ever since I started blogging and reviewing finding that time is but a far off dream. But if I do...Love and Skate is definitely the top book I will want to reread.

Lately I have been finding myself wanting to read contemporary fiction more and more, a genre that I really never cared for until recently. Love and Skate is a perfect example of why I want to read more of it. Felix is not afraid to send her beloved characters through the ringer before they find their happiness.

I have said it before, that Felix knows what the reader wants when it comes to romance and she delivers it with perfect execution in her books. If given the time I could go on and on about how much I adore the romance that flows perfectly through the story. With each book, her writing and storytelling has gotten better and better. And with each book I am more in awe of her as an author.

The relationship between Owen and Nellie is charming and so unbelievably cute. Felix really did a great job giving the readers some awesome characters that become like a 2nd family to you. Felix is kinda fabulous in that regard. How does she do it? What is her secret? I don’t know…but she better never stop.

Go read Love and Skate. Then try to tell me you didn't love it. Cause I will promise you...you are gonna love it!

    Fav scene..
I put my arm under her head and grabbed the back of her thigh to move her even closer as gently as possible. Just hours ago I would’ve given anything to have my hand on her thigh but this was not sexy. This was making sure that if she was cold, I would warm her. If she was in pain, I would ease her. And if her heart ached, I would mend her. Somehow the things that I could do for her were just the things that she needed. She could’ve found them anywhere but she chose to seek them in me.

    SEE! Swoony romance! Owen= sexiness!

Epic Love Story!!!!!!!!!!! Where to start with this review?????

    Epic Love Story!!!!!!!!!!!

Where to start with this review????? Man can I just first start by saying that Lila Felix has an incredible knack for writing! She writes these incredible stories with these kick butt girls and these swoon worthy bad boys. Lord Love and Skate had me on a roller coaster of a ride. I was laughing one minute then crying the next.

Have you ever loved someone so hard and given your all for them to turn around and rip your heart out and stomp on it? Have you ever had a best friend betray you by dating your ex? Well if you have ever experienced that this book is for you. This story is about love, loss, and finding oneself. It is about finding true love in the midst of all the doubts and hurts and anger that has consumed your heart.

Nellie is in college starting a new life. She is enjoying college as well as her roller derbying with her team. She avoids her family and close relationships because she had her heart torn out and she was humiliated by the two people she trusted. That is until she sees a guy in one of her classes and she wants to get to know him better. When she is finally introduced to this mysterious class mate she finds out his name is Owen Black. Owen is GORGEOUS and full of tattoos and piercings and Nellie is instantly drawn to him. But Nellie knows that bad boys are just what they are and that is her red flag to stay away from Owen.

Owen is enjoying his time in college. He just wants to go to classes and graduate and start his new life as a Marine Biologist. He had a horrible experience with a girl he loved and an ex-best friend that he avoids partying and drinking and relationships. That is until he meets Nellie with her blue hair looking all sexy. He can't get his mind off of her and needs to find out her name but every time he tries to she disappears. So whe they are finally introduced Owen has made up his mind that he wants her and he is ready to have that relationship and closeness he craves.

The funny thing about old wounds is when you try and suppress them it never fails that the ugly old feelings come back to haunt you. They come to the surface when you least expect it. For Owen and Nellie they will love hard but Owen's insecurities and hurts come to the forefront of their relationship and try it. Will they make it? Will they break it? Will Owen open up to Nellie? Will Nellie love Owen? This story made me laugh and cry and the things the two went through were real and the outcome was well worth it! I am so Team Owen Matthew Black!
