Finally. Since time immemorial humanity had been searching for it, and she, Darcy Trent, had finally found Eden. This wasn't merely an educated guess on her part. Raised by an archeologist and an ancient worlds specialist, she'd quite literally cut her teeth (to her parents' shock and dismay at her reckless disregard for leaving drool on antique texts) on all things dusty, old and priceless. With two degrees in cultural anthropology under her belt—soon to be followed by the coveted third, which would enable her to precede her name forever with the all-important title of doctor—Darcy could quite rightly claim decades of study and research had led her to this all-important, incontrovertible discovery. She closed her eyes to savor the moment.

"A seagull just pooped on my toe."

Darcy's eyes popped back open. Trina, her best friend since their matching-pigtail days, sat on a watermelon pink and green towel, surveying the toe in question with a glum look.

Darcy slid a little lower in her beach chair and sighed. "Trina, I'm having a moment here."

"And you can go back to your magic moment once I rinse off my toe. Come with me."

Yup, reality had a perfect track record for slapping Darcy in the face the second she let her guard down. Evidently Ocean City, Maryland wasn't cut out to be Eden after all. But it sure felt like it.

Darcy ticked off the criteria in her head. No dysentery, no lions lurking behind a bush planning their next meal around her, and water as far as the eye could see. After eight months in sub-Saharan Africa finishing her dissertation, this beachside tourist trap fit the bill perfectly. Okay, maybe this stretch of beach covered with oil-slicked teens, screaming tots and a few too many jellyfish wasn't really the official paradise on earth regaled in myth and legend. But for the next week, she literally couldn't think of anyplace she'd rather be.

"Darcy, come on," Trina hollered. The noonday sun turned Trina's hair into a strawberry nimbus. Its bell shape swung back and forth as she made an elaborate production of standing without letting the offending toe touch her towel.

"You're twenty-seven years old. Why can't you walk to the water's edge by yourself?" Darcy asked. Without waiting for an answer, she gave in to the inevitable and pushed herself out of the chair. She ran her fingers over her navy bikini bottoms in a quick modesty check. No thongs for her. Darcy believed at least dinner and drinks were required before anyone saw her naked butt.

"Girl code 101. We go everywhere in pairs to look out for each other." Trina threw an arm around Darcy's waist. Sand rubbed in the tiny sliver of flesh between her bottoms and her tankini top. "So if a wave pulls my bikini off my boobs, you can warn me."

"Or—and here's a crazy thought—you could wear a suit that actually covers your breasts." Trina's tiny white tube top exposed quite a lot of freckled skin. Darcy wouldn't have felt comfortable using that little fabric for a bandanna. "Built-in safety from flashing."

"Where's the fun in that?" Trina giggled. She swerved sideways to avoid being barreled into by a shrieking, naked toddler carrying fistfuls of seaweed. "Plus, it's no fun to spot for hot guys by myself. You've got to rate them, too. Beach goggles are just as dangerous as beer goggles. At least fifty percent of guys look hot when they're shirtless with a steaming fresh tan."

    Good story!

This was a short fun read and can be easily read in an evening. It takes place at the beach in an accidental meeting when she needs saving and they find themselves attracted to one another. Good banter and interaction between Cooper and Darcy. I also like Trina her best friend and her qhest to find the right job. Becoming a PI is the latest and it lands them in hot water. Good adventure and good outcome.

    Good.

136pgs... wow. Very quick read...I enjoyed the story. I would like to see this story expanded or contined... I was hoping for more when I was on the last two pages and was surprised it ended.

    Another great one!

I love anything Christi Barth writes! This was a shorter book, only 142 pages. But still a great one! I love the chemistry of Darcy and Coop. In fact, I see another book in the future! I wish their story didn't end!

Darcy is a multi-degreed person who has finally found the time to relax a little bit. While on vacation with her best friend she was in the ocean and rescued by a handsome stranger. She feels guilty and that she owed him something for saving her.

Cooper is on vacation from his job and rescued Darcy. He never thought he would see her again. When he finally did, he asked her out. The rest they say is history.

Throughout the book we find out information about the characters and their respectable pasts. Each one is different from the other. They have both noticed their attraction to each other. Then when Cooper’s cousin comes to visit, Darcy’s friend and he hit it off. The only thing is that Cooper’s cousin is getting over a bad break up and Darcy’s friend wants to be private investigator. The first few chapters are funny and full of sexual tension.

Since Darcy’s best friend Trina, is investigating someone, both her and Darcy keep getting into trouble. They keep getting caught by the person they are following. Cooper and his cousin Brad are cops so they are trying to help the girls stay out of trouble. But Trina does not want to listen. The other issue between the four of them is the sexual tension between them all. Things are bound to get heated.

The bad guy was finally caught and Darcy and Cooper finally admitted to each other that they wanted more than a beach fling. A happy ending for the case and for love.

I completely enjoyed reading this book. I just wish there was a little more story, but in the end completely recommend this book to other readers who want some romance with their suspense.

Love at High Tide is a cute, fast-paced read that is perfect for an afternoon at the beach. I liked Darcy and Coop. (Seriously, what is it about that name that makes it so hot to me?) Their attraction begins when Coop rescues Darcy when she panics in the ocean, and takes off with lots of flirting and longing glances. I appreciated how the two do not play games, or play coy, and act like two adults who know what they want.

Unfortunately, it seems that fate wants to be a cockblocker, and between Coop's meddling family calling him every five minutes (IGNORE your phone, dude. I do it ALL the time.), and Darcy's slightly annoying friend, the action between two gets off to a slow start. That's okay, though, because I don't mind if a couple takes time to get to know each other. What I didn't count on was the side story, involving the BFF Trina and a fat, hairy bad guy. Don't get me wrong, this bit was actually funny, with the two ladies playing spy, but it seemed to take over the plot. I wanted more sexy times with Coop and less spying in the hairy bad guy.

When Love at High Tide focused on Coop and Darcy, I really enjoyed it. They had a playful banter to keep the mood light, but both knew how to turn up the heat. Once things start going their way, the story was steamy. And again, it is a relief to have two characters who in know what they want and aren't afraid to say it. The angst was super low, and that made it such an easy, relaxing story.

Love at High Tide was a fun read, and it actually made me smile a lot. I do wish the story had revolved more around the couple, but I did like how the story wrapped up. Not a bad way to spend a few hours.

    Gotta love Christi Barth!!!

for Read Your Writes Book Reviews

Oh my gosh... Love at High Tide is so much more than I bargained for. Not only do you get the humor and sex you usually get from Christi Barth, you also get a little mini-mystery. Picking up this book immediately had me feeling like I was in my own little comfort zone. It was like drinking hot chocolate on a cold winter's day. I immediately started smiling and was reminded why I love Christi so much.

Christi does a wonderful job of telling a story. She has hot sexy moments, without them being too graphic. The characters are all people you can love. I can't help but wonder if there's going to be a follow- up book. I mean Darcy's best friend Trina is quirky and funny.. She’s actually rather enduring as long as you don't have to be around her all the time. Darcy and Trina balance each other since Darcy is so serious all the time. Cooper is to die for... He’s lost his way career wise and is just hanging out at his family’s beach house, wishing he could avoid them. Then there's Brad, Cooper's cousin. He doesn't have as big a part in the book as Trina does but there's potential with him.

Love at High Tide is being touted as a summer beach read. That's all fine and dandy... However, I would only recommend reading this at the beach if you have an umbrella to shield yourself from the sun. Because once you start reading this book you aren't going to want to put it down. And that, could lead to some SERIOUS sunburn.

This is a really good read. And if you aren't familiar with Christi, a good place to start. It's different from her other books, in that you have two best friends being ameuther sleuths, putting themselves in danger and not even realizing it. Be prepared to laugh, smile, and fall in love.

Love at High Tide by Christi Barth is another one of her fabulou

Love at High Tide by Christi Barth is another one of her fabulous contemporary romances. I have read quite a few of Christi’s books, and she continues to amaze me how she can keep producing such fun books to read. Love at High Tide is a novella, but a perfect read either on the beach or in your air-conditioned house getting away form the extreme heat. Either way, this is a fun perfect read.

Darcy Trent is our heroine, and I thorough liked her from the start. Darcy is not only beautiful, nice, loyal and a great friend, but she is also very smart, having just completed her Phd. Darcy is on vacation with her best friend, Trina, relaxing on the beach in Ocean City, Maryland. Darcy, having spent a few years in the African desert, has a few days to make a decision to accept a wonderful career opportunity, but it will force her to go back to Africa for a few more years. She loves the beach, the water, and truly does not want accept the offer; however, she has not other job opportunities at this time.

While Darcy relaxes and enjoys the beach, she finds herself almost drowning, but saved by a handsome blond hunk, who is truly our hero, Cooper (Coop) Hudson. Coop is also on the beach trying to come to terms with returning to his job as a detective, currently on leave due to the loss of his partner. I have to say, I loved Coop right from the start. He was not only a hunk, but the kind of guy any mother would want for their daughter. He was awesome throughout. That is not to say Darcy wasn’t great either. They made such a great couple, and we impatiently waited for them to have sex. Barth did a great job teasing us early on, as we knew they both had the hots for each other. But so many times they were interrupted by mostly Trina and her crazy antics. I did like Trina, she was funny, not to mention her and Darcy were very close friends. But Trina was practicing to be a private eye, and I thought her antics trying to solve a mystery (yes there is a mystery in this wonderful romance story), was a bit too much & kind of got on my nerves. Both Trina and Darcy were getting themselves in trouble constantly trying snoop on someone they suspected was doing something illegal. Despite Coop telling them to be careful, Trina kept going and putting herself and Darcy in danger.

Perhaps I loved the relationship between Darcy and Coop, I didn’t want Trina constantly pulling her away. Oh well, it was an interesting mystery. When Coop and Darcy finally have steamy sex, it was all worth it though. Their chemistry was hot, and they made such a wonderful couple. I think I have said that a few times. There are other mysteries that have to be resolved as your read the story. Will Darcy take the job in Africa? Will Coop be able to go back to being a Detective? What happens when they find out the truth about the mystery person? Will Coop and Darcy call it a fling or will they stay together? Read this book to find out.

Rather then tell you more about the mystery, let me just say the romance between Darcy and Coop makes this a must and fun read. This is not erotica, but a perfect contemporary romance with some mystery, and hot steamy sex. Christi Barth has once again created a wonderful pure romance to fully enjoy. I love Christi’s Aisle Bound series, and I so would love to see her do more with Coop and Darcy.

Love at High Tide is like a trip to the beach--light, frothy, fun, and over too soon!

Coop and Darcy's story was an enjoyable way to spend a lazy summer day. I honestly probably would have only given this book three stars if it hadn't been for two things, though. One: the location, Ocean City, Maryland, is one of my favorite places to vacation. Christi Barth threw in a lot of local references that alone made the book twice as fun to read for someone who's been there(sunsets at Fager's Island! Fractured Prune doughnuts! All that was missing was Fisher's Popcorn). Two: this book mentions my all-time favorite television show, Scarecrow and Mrs. King. I loved that show more than was probably healthy, so it was just too funny to see Darcy's friend Trina use it as the reason for her latest career choice.

Though entertaining, this book is definitely light on substance, however. At times Trina's antics overshadowed Darcy and Cooper's romance, and things are resolved fairly quickly and painlessly at the end. Still, I had a lot of fun with this book. For what it is--a light beach read--it definitely delivered.

Love at High Tide by Christi Barth is the perfect start to your

Love at High Tide by Christi Barth is the perfect start to your summer reading list.  What better way to start off your beach reads than with a cute, fun and entertaining story that takes place on the beach? Perfect!
Darcy Trent is enjoying some R&R with her BFF on the beach in Ocean City, Md. She has a lot on her plate and has a big decision to make regarding her career and whether to use all of her schooling and degrees studying cultures and tribes in Africa, or to find a way to let her overachieving parents down gently and choose another path.  Luckily, Trina, her best friend, is on her new career path…which this month is self-training to become a private investigator.  If anything it will be the welcomed distraction Darcy needs.  Another welcomed distraction is the gorgeous, hunky stranger who rescues her from a near drowning disaster in the ocean.  Looks like this may end up being the perfect hot and steamy beach vacation.
Trying to shake off the rejection from the secret service, thanks to his injured knee, Cooper Hudson is here at his family’s beach house looking to make heads or tails of his future in law enforcement.  He’s not ready to go back to his old department just yet with the sting of rejection still lingering.  Some time in the sand sounds just about perfect and the beautiful brunette he pulls out of the surf draws him in with a sudden attraction he knows he needs to investigate further.  But with his meddling family always calling to check up on him, he hopes he will be able to get to know her without his phone ruining the moment.  When his cousin, Brad, decides to show up and stay for a few days, he just about loses his cool until he realizes that Darcy’s friend and his cousin seem to be hitting it off as well.  Could the fates finally be on his side?
This story was so fun and entertaining, I couldn’t put it down! Darcy and Trina are hilarious together…going off on an amateur private investigating sting and just being entertaining gals. From wigs to Russian mobsters, these two were just too much fun.  Cooper is delish.  He is the ultimate rule following, knight in shining armor and has a heart of gold.  He is a hero any gal would love. Darcy and Cooper together are sizzling.  They know their time is limited, being it a beach fling, and they don’t waste time with a lot of fluff.  Their sexy banter back and forth was done really, really well.  I was so pleased with how much was packed into a story of 183 pages….really well done! It had action, humor, tugged on the heartstrings and had plenty of heat! Oh, and I’m curious to see if we see more of Trina and Brad in the future because I think they would make a fantastic couple!
Thank you, Christi, for a great kick-off to beach read season!

Sun, Sand, and Sexy Men - the prefect beach/pool read!

Darcy Trent, PhD is a very practical girl,

“No Thongs for her. Darcy believed at least dinner and drinks were required before anyone saw her naked butt.”

Cooper Hudson can be TRUSTED to ensure Darcy has a memorable vacation.

“You’re in the presence of a certified Eagle Scout.”

Now is the time when many readers are searching for pool/beach reads. This is the perfect summer read. It has sun, sand, sexy men mixed with some mild intrigue; light and entertaining. I was thrilled, yet again, by this author. She wrote an incredible story filled with wonderful characters, humorous dialogue, and chemistry. The best part was that kept the romance natural, allowing thing to progress without drama.
