Meet the Author

Surviving a long bout with sanity, J. Morgan found a muse willing to work cheap and began work on his first book.

Since then, his imagination has been seen running wild on several occasions. Luckily, the straight jackets have been limited to his time away from the computer.

When not writing, 'Jmo' can be found in front of the TV pretending to write while really watching endless hours of drivel and laughing at the voices in his head who are constantly feeding him plotlines. While the voices may not be in total control just yet, one day they hope to have a book deal of their own.

Until then, J. Morgan will continue to get to spend the royalty checks.

    more from this reviewer

    explosive characters

Lovership of the Stake is a witty, humorous story filled with explosive characters. Joan and Drake are refreshing as they encounter the little dilemmas they are challenged with daily. I loved the way they interacted when she discovered he was still alive. The dialogue is tight and wonderfully crafted to the point it was as if this reader were watching a live movie unfolding. Mr. Morgan depicts an action read, with some amusing and comical pits along the way. He pens a total package story to make it truly entertaining.

    Fantastic Read

In this, the fifth and final book in J Morgan's riotously funny Love Bites series, many of the threads that have connected the books are finally brought to a satisfactory end.

When you've been around more than three thousand years, you tend to make a few enemies along the way. Joan Ravell is one of the original vampires, and she has made lots of people angry in that time. Still, she has noticed that lately people keep trying to kill her. Joan is more than ready to take on all comers, but just when she is sure things can't get stranger, her first and only love shows up to save her from the latest wave of assassins.

Since Joan watched Draken Ragul die three thousand years ago, she is stunned to learn he is still alive, and even more shocked to learn he has been following her for most of those three thousand years, staying in the background but watching over her.

When Joan discovers there is a plot to destroy her family, she decides to find the one behind the plot, and stop it once and for all. To do that, she and Draken must join her family in the hunt for the First Fallen, stay alive and stop the total destruction of the world as we know it. Then there's the little matter of the love Joan still has for Draken, and her determination not to be hurt again. After all she has spent three thousand years trying to get over losing him and their baby, and now everything is up in the air for her.

Can this motley group of assorted vampires, humans and other beings get ahead of the one responsible for all the chaos? Can they find the First Fallen and prevent the end of the world? Can Joan forgive Draken for not being dead, and admit her love?

I love the humor and sarcasm Mr. Morgan injects into his writing, and the multitude of pop culture references continues to make me laugh at his sense of the absurd. The characters are all so much larger than life, and in this book, we are reunited with those we have come to know and love from previous books: Demetrious, Eli, Lyssette and the rest of the Ravell and de Mecini clans all make appearances here.

Joan Ravell has done everything in her power to forget the love of her life. She has spent three thousand years trying to get over her loss, and now here he is, back and complicating life for her. I love Joan, with her self absorbed and egocentric attitude. She is ready to kick butt and take names later, a strong and determined woman. I enjoyed her snarky and sarcastic take on life, and enjoyed watching as her love for Draken slowly surfaced to change her forever. I also had to laugh as Joan continued to name drop about the many historical figures she was involved with through the years, and her effect on each one.

Draken Ragul has been watching over Joan since his 'death' three thousand years ago. The proverbial tall dark and gorgeous hero, he still loves Joan with all his heart. He is loyal and regrets the pain he caused by leaving her alone all this time. I loved watching as he tried to convince Joan to take another chance on him and their love. He had his reasons for staying hidden, now if he can just stay alive long enough to explain, maybe he will earn forgiveness.

There is lots of action and humor in this story, along with a sweet romantic reunion. Joan and Draken get their happy forever after, and with it comes a marvelous surprise for them.

    The Gang's All HERE!

From the man who told us "Vampires do NOT glitter" comes another fun ride!! Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge J. Morgan fan and I love the Love Bites series. Book 5 picks up right where Bk 4 leaves off, but this time it's Aunt Joan's turn to tell her story. And who wouldn't want to watch the events unfurl firsthand from the self-proclaimed baddest Vamp there is? And the devilish Joan has lived to see it all...literally. After all, she was once a pope, or at least she pretended to be, not that the Humans knew that little tidbit. Moving on.... As with each of the books, there's a sinister plot to raise the First Fallen-the most dangerous and evil being the Ancients created, a mistake they have trapped away in some undisclosed location and hoped everyone would forget about. Fat chance. Somevamp wants the FF so the fanged among them can regain their former glory and rule over the cattle...uhh...I mean Humans. Enter Joan Ravell-and her long-lost first love, Draken Ragul. The problem? Joan watched Draken die 3,000 years ago. Sun poisoning, naturally. What's great about this story is how it brings together all of the events of the first 4 books, and reintroduces us to all of those characters we fell in love with before and have since been wondering what's happened to. Of course there are the Morgan staples: fast-paced plot, snark, humor, tons o' pop culture references (including a nod and wave to Tolkien, which I loved), Greek mythology, cleverly disguised curse words, and a sweet love story. He even throws in a werewolf or two, because you can't have a paranormal gumbo without a side of fur. Everything is layered, and he does a fantastic job of connecting the pieces. I highly recommend this read for anyone looking for something fun, fresh, and fanged. As always, I hate when the books end. It's just so much fun trying to keep pace with the vamps, slayers, and whoever else Morgan brings into the fray. And though Bk 5 ends the first part of this great saga, there's more to come with the Bite Marks series, which will pick up where Love Bites leaves off! Morgan's going to have to write faster, because I can't wait!
