Overview

This is a special book about special people.  People who have loved me, and whom I have loved.  People who have brought me joy beyond measure, and sometimes incredible pain.  People I have hurt, sometimes more than I can bear to think about.  People who have hurt me, sometimes more than they know.  Yet each of their gifts has been precious, each moment treasured, each face, each smile, each victory, each defeat woven into the fiber of my being.  In retrospect, all of it is beautiful, because we cared so much.  In essence, this book covers fifteen years of my life, and a handful of precious people who mean, and have meant everything to me.  This book is written for them.

With much love, d.s.

Fear Not—Farewell

Fear not,
sweet love,
the hands of time,
for poems do not always rhyme,
fate runs its course and plays its tricks,
and in the last and final mix,
one wins it all and loses naught,
if love was good and battles fought to their very final end,
good-bye sweet love,
farewell,
my friend.

I can relate to this book so well. I think some feelings she has expressed are feelings everyone has had and can very much relate to. It is a wonderful book and I am glad she chose to share it with the world.

I read this book for the first time when I was in high school. Since then I have been haunted by a poem in it. I have forgotten the title but it had to do with inner walls built to protect her heart. It sounded so like me! I have searched and searched for this book and finally I have found it. I can't wait to own it. I am sure that I will wear out the pages reading this book over and over.

I had never read a book by Steel and didn't think twice to pick up a collection of poetry by her at any expense. But being a lover of poetry and a poet myself I gave it a try. I found it around the price B&N have it here and thought it deserved a chance. It truly consumed a part of me and I've kept it for years now with my most cherished possessions. I had a serious case of writers block and I needed an outlet to express so much to my now husband who at the time was in the midst of a separation from his high school sweet heart and bouncing between bars while I desired another life away from my then, prison of a relationship. This collection said what I couldn't and has made all the difference.

Is there a way that I can give this book negative stars? Someone passed this on to me claiming that it would bring great catharsis. It did - I laughed till I cried. Is this woman serious? How could she possibly have been published all these years? I'm an English teacher, and even my high school kids laughed at this work. Do yourselves a favor and try some Walt Whitman.
