Carlie Hollis is a victim fleeing powerful political enemies who want her killed. Or maybe she's a terrorist, secretly plotting against the United States.

Nick Kendall is a patriot seeking to eliminate his county's enemies. Or maybe the organization he works for isn't part of the government at all.

When Nick arrives in town to court- and investigate- Carlie- a love blossoms that is both sweet and sexy, if a little corny at times. Beneath it lies an undercurrent of deception, but who is deceiving who? And about what?

I've come to expect shocking twists from this author, and this book was no exception as it kept me hooked to the end. Great start to a new series. I look forward to the next book

Love & Deception by Chantel Rhondeau is the first book in her Agents in Love series. This is a wonderful piece of romantic suspense and the great beginning to a series. The story is about Carlie Hollis, who is living in hiding, under an assumed name, following her husband’s murder 6 years prior. She has had different aliases and moved all around the country, fleeing the people who killed her husband. She is taking karate, trying to improve her self-defense skills, when she meets Nick Kendall. He’s handsome and intriguing, and she finds herself drawn to him. Little does she know, there is more to him than meets the eye.

This story is full of action and suspense. The plot twists and turns as Chantel weaves a fantastic story. I found myself stopping and thinking so many times while I was reading this book. I loved it! There were many moments when I was on the edge of my seat. The story is definitely not lacking in the romance department, either. ;) Really well written and I enjoyed it. I’ll be looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I received a complimentary electronic copy of this book from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Carlie Hollis is on the run and she has been for quite some time, finally settling in the town of Sayle, Washington, where she has found a sort of quiet existence as a deli owner. Then she meets Nick, who immediately has her on edge thanks to his good looks and easy charm. Always skeptical of any person in general, but men specifically who take an interest in her, Carlie is reluctant to date or spar with Nick in her quest for her karate black belt. In Love & Deception, we learn that both Carlie and Nick have secrets that could not only have a deadly impact on their budding relationship, but also on their lives. Chantal Rhondeau does a great job of hinting at the reasons for Nick and Carlie’s deception without giving away the story, but she manages to avoid the annoying habit of teasing the reader. From early in the story I knew they both had hidden agendas and I was eager to plow through the pages to find out the what and the why.

If you were looking for a simple love story, Love & Deception is a lot of things, but simple it is not. Nick thinks Carlie may be a terrorist - yes, that kind of terrorist — and he is basically there to assess her threat level and take her out if needs be. Throughout the story, Chantal Rhondeau leaves you guessing about the motives and real loyalties of both Nick and Carlie, which left me frustrated because I love to solve a mystery before the characters do, but also completely enthralled in the story because I just needed to know! There’s romance in this story, but it is really the mystery behind the romance that will have you on tenterhooks for most of the book. The twists and turns will have you putting aside chores and ignoring phone calls until you've gotten to the bottom of this story. Love & Deception is not your standard love story and it is all the better for it!

    LOVED

I loved this book. I had to buy the other in the series. Which I think is the first book in the series. But certainly didn't matter if I read that one first or not. This had some reference to the previous book but not enough to confuse you. I plan to buy more of them. This is the first I have read from this author, and I was glad I stumbled upon her. Has good story line, some suspense, and keeps you interested the whole time.

    Almost perfect

Another great book by my new favorite author! This story was very suspenseful, full of twists and turns. The love story was decent but somewhat overshadowed by the mystery. You knew something was going on and even thought you knew who was behind it, but I couldn't figure out the WHY until the end. I absolutely LOVED the fact that Donovan and Maddie made an appearance so we could check in on their lives! I really like those two!

The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was I thought Nick was a little too gullible for a secret agent and the plot line given for the bracelet was lame. Once I just accepted it and went with the story, it was a wild ride!

Another fantastic read by Chantel Rhondeau! Carlie and Nick

Another fantastic read by Chantel Rhondeau!

Carlie and Nick each have their secrets, but they also find love and solace in each other. The tricky thing is that Nick is investigating Carlie and she is hiding from men like him.

There are many reasons why I loved this romantic suspense! First, the characters. Nick is the total Alpha male, plus he's protective and loyal at all costs. I loved his patriotism and dependability as an undercover agent for a top-secret organization. And I always love a man with a gun and a desire to protect his woman! Carlie also was a believable character with an astounding story behind her and a strong desire to be safe. She doesn't trust many people, and the fact that she knew she could trust Nick right off was endearing (although maybe she shouldn't have trusted him ... you'll have to read to find out).

I loved the twists and turns in this read. Love & Deception was full of suspense and I'm usually good at deducting what happens in mysteries right off. Not in this case!Every chapter had me thinking new possibilities and the ending is where it truly comes out. (The end was my favorite part!)

My last reason for loving this story is the political issues involved. Most people probably wouldn't say that, but I'm a politics nut and I think terrorism is a viable concern in our world today. Rhondeau did a great job tying in this important theme throughout the book, without being offensive, but striking a chord with reality.

This is a great read with the right amount of suspense, love, romance, sexiness, and adventure at every corner. I highly recommend this new book by Chantel Rhondeau! 5 STARS!

One of my favorite authors has done it again. The romance of Nick and Carlie is as gripping as the suspense it sits on. SATO agent Nick falls for his 'target', suspected terrorist Carlie Hollis. Nick's assignment was never going to be straight forward as he intended to sleep with her to get information. Then complications set in - and more than the reader can guess. I enjoyed watching their love blossom as Ms. Rhondeau put more emphasis into the romance side of the story in this book then some of her previous work. And she did it with HOT sex scenes.

There are a lot of twists and unforeseen events in this book that keeps the readers guessing about who to believe, which makes for an interesting and unforeseen conclusion. There is a great cast of supporting characters which add to the twists. As much as the story, I always enjoy the author's style and writing ability. She gives clear images which help put me in the book, right next to the characters, which was where I wanted to be.

Chantel Rhondeau delivered another excellent tale of mystery, suspense and romance. I highly recommend this book as well as her other work

What a thrilling ride. Nick is an agent sent to investigate a deadly ring of terrorists set in the bucolic town of Sayle, Washington. The ringleader? A widow running a cafe serving cupcakes.

Carlie can't resist the handsome hunky Nick when he saves her from fellow karate student Stephen Chance's dirty hands. Their romance twists and turns as Nick alternately suspects Carlie and then imagines she is the victim.

This story had me spinning. You think you know what's going on, and it's pretty obvious Nick's being played. But who is behind it? And why? As you're enjoying the love scenes and sweet endearments, you can't help but wonder about the monster around the corner.

And pow! When it hits, you're left reeling. Just when you think it's safe, another twist takes you back into uncertainty. This story is stock full with surprises, betrayals, turnarounds and the ultimate reveal of the boss villain. Even though it's the first book of a series, it wraps up with a happy and cute ending.
