Overview

When Christian talk show host Serenity Williams's fiance calls off their wedding because he can't deal with her popularity, she determines that she will never fall in love with another pride-filled, ego-driven pastor. Then, Serenity's producer asks her to interview the charismatic Pastor Phillip McKnight, who has recently gone through a divorce. Serenity feels that this is her chance to expose the arrogance of ego-filled pastors to the world. But Pastor Phillip is broken and humbled from his experiences, and the surprising humility of this man causes Serenity to want to un-break his heart. However, Serenity will need the Lord to fix her heart and change her mind about male preachers before she and Phillip can become all they were meant to be to each other.

I really enjoyed this second book in Vanessa Miller's Second Chance at Love series. Serenity Williams is a good friend of Melinda Johnson's, from Miller's first book in the series - Yesterday's Promise, which I previously reviewed. Melinda was engaged to a man who didn't believe that a woman should be a minister. She used Serenity's relationship with her fiancé to prove that a man can, and should, support his successful, and Christian, woman. This second book starts off with Michael, Serenity's fiancé, calling off their wedding just a week before the big date! She's devastated, as any woman would be. Pastor Philip McKnight is an ex-football player who is interviewed on Serenity's religious television show. He's the first man she's interviewed on her show. He's a single father raising his daughter alone. He's trying to recover from his divorce. Serenity has endured many hurts, and is a little (okay, a LOT) jaded when it comes to relationships. So, when Pastor McKnight takes an interest in her, she doesn't appreciate it. When she's told that she's stand-offish when it comes to her studio audience, she doesn't appreciate it. She needs to mellow out - and maybe, just maybe, Phillip McKnight is just the man to help her along. If she will allow him to. Like I said, earlier, I enjoyed this book. The characters were fully developed and Vanessa Miller made Phillip McKnight another one of those good men who are hard to find...
