Roma Downey, the star of TV's Touched by an Angel, wants to open the hearts and minds of young readers. Using a positive message and a charming story, the talented actress and mother explores the definition of family and the meaning of love in this heartwarming story.
Young Lily wants a real family, one that's full of brothers, sisters, two parents, and a wonderfully chaotic house. But with no siblings and only her mom at home in a quiet house, Lily is sure she'll be laughed straight out of her school's Family Fun Night. But upon arrival, she soon realizes that families come in all sorts of packages. From the grandparents that raise Josh and Tony to the widowed father who raises young Remi on his own. Lily's mom recalls that her own mother died when she was very young, and her father raised her. Lily finally realizes that what makes a family is love.
Downey tells an important story that's true to the times. Embracing the many faces of "family values," she embraces all types of family units. Downey uses a number of words in bold type to signify key points in the story, which will prove helpful to young readers. Illustrations are filled with warm colors and plenty of detail, inviting youngsters to read the tale again and again. Touched by an Angel fans will also smile at the resemblance between Downey's and Lily's mom. Luscious illustrations and a heartfelt message make this warm tale a great pick for any family.
