Her album of languid, impeccably arranged standards, Love Is the Answer, seems swathed in champagne bubbles and black velvet. [B+]

I'm surprised that anybody could dislike this album. Had Barbra recorded more songs from the Great American Songbook it surely would have been just same-old same-old. Yes, Barbra performs like an instrument at times, perhaps oblivious to the lyric. but it's a great instrumental performance, intelligent, explorative, just simply enchanting. Krall's accompaniment draws the jazz side of Streisand out into the open, rendering the songs in a subdued fashion, and in a way that's more demanding on the singer. This is not an album that will grow on me. It doesn't have to.

Streisand continues to amaze me with her voice. She has class and selects the perfect songs and those she collaborates with on each album are always the best. She enunciates(!) each word so beautifully and each tone is.....words escape me. In talent I equate her to Frank Sinatra. I consider each song honored to be sung by either of them.

I don't understand bad reviews of this CD. I found it lush, emotionally evocative. Some look hard for technical imperfection rather than the flow, spirit, integrity of a work. Barbra's vocals are right on target, the accompaniments exactly what's appropriate, the theme maginificantly explored. It is a perfect CD for listening to while hands are clasped around a steaming mug of coffee on a misty morning, or wrapped in a luxurious robe in front of the fireplace, or in sad, wee hours of the morning, or most of all, sitting on the porch in spring, knowing the birds and plants and you can begin again. "Spring can really hang you up the most" was as poignant and thrilling to me as it was when I heard it as a new song. I want to hear this CD again and I want to hear more from her (and Diana). I want this to be her endless career, not her "late career" as someone called it. She is a timeless treasure.

So glad to have another Barbra CD...I only like a few of the songs but her voice is beautiful as usual on all of them

one of my least favorite Streisand albums

Soothing, predictably wonderful. However, She might have taken more gambles on her song choices. There are lots of nice newer love songs.

She lifts the spirit and sends you soaring into the ethers as she brings her soul into her music. Looking forward to any work she brings forth.

If you like listening to a beautiful voice, you'll like this album. It's always amazing to me that Barbara couldn't read music when she first started. How great she still is. You won't believe how pure her voice sounds.

I am not a fan of Barbra Streisand. I bought this CD because I am a fan of Diana Krall and have long admired the arranging and songwriting of Johnny Mandel. The collaboration of these three produced an excellent listening experience.

Don't waste your money. Replay her older recordings, much better. Babra is very uninteresting and not worth all the hype.

My overall rating for this recording is 4 Star.

Those who were disappointed on first hearing -- spin it again! The vocals are amazing! Barbra has been on top for nearly half a century and this disc proves that the world is right, the performance is simply stunning Streisand! You will love it, if not immediately you will understand it's brilliance very soon... She is indeed Gods Greatest Gift To The human ear!

I love Barbra Streisand, but this CD was a disappointment and I don't think up to her potential. The music was too slow and melancoly for me.

Great album, among her best. She just gets better and better.

I am a huge fasn of Barbara's and have lots of my albums & CD's. The last 2 CD's to me were not worth the money. I hear a sound from this CD on The View and really enjoyed it and that is the sound I bought this CD. The song was not the same on the CD as on The View. I give it to the my girlfriend and she returned it. I am so waiting for her to put out one that I can listen it and enjoy. Sorry Barbara.

Very low key, good for falling asleep. Plus Barbra's voice is showing some age. Which is okay, but the album overall is a snooze.

I was a little disappointed--not much variety. But it was quintessential Barbra.

Classy and elegant as ever.

When I purchased Barbra's new CD, it only included the CD with the quartet and orchestral background. I think it sounded just awful. Then I did purchase the CD with Barbra singing with the quartet only. That one is very good. However, I think it is all too slow and drags most of the time. Could easily put one to sleep. It is very easy to tell that her collaberation with Diana Krall has resulted in listening to wonderful songs with slow, drawn out arrangements. This CD is very similar with the newest Diana Krall CD as well. When it was announced that Barbra would be recording a "jazz CD", I was excited, but it is just way too slow for my taste. If she would have tried to have a few upbeat arrangements, this CD would be a great success. I am kind of disappointed.

The quality and sound was fabulous. The content was beautiful. Very nice easy listening music, but not something that I would sit down and concentrate on listening to.

My husband always enjoyed the unique voices of female jazz singers. When the older vinyls were re-recorded to CDs he searched the catalogs and record stores for those favorites. I gave him the "Torch Songs" and "Lady Sings The Blues" because there were so many of his favorite singers and songs on one or two CDs. They also included an unknown (to us), Diana Krall. We found her fan club, bought every CD she had produced including the DVD of her "Live in Paris" concert. When I saw the promo on my B&N e-mail re: Barbra Streisand's "Love is the Answer" co-produced by Diana Krall, I couldn't wait to hear it. The CD has more meaning when the listener can picture Diana and her accompanists and an orchestra. I suggest any one who purchases this recording also view the entire concert as well as read the detailed jacket describing Barbra's reasons for each song and her and Diana's focus in creating this masterpiece.
