( 5 )

Overview

Love might be a many-splendored thing. Sex and the City is another. Since letters from this book were read in bed by Carrie Bradshaw with (you guessed it) Mr. Big in the new hit movie, this has become an immediate classic and a "must read" for all those longing for love or searching for the right words to say. An excerpt that was read in the movie: "Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, now and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us - I can live...

More About This Book

An excerpt that was read in the movie: "Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved, now and then joyfully, then sadly, waiting to learn whether or not fate will hear us - I can live only wholly with you or not at all - Yes, I am resolved to wander so long away from you until I can fly to your arms and say that I am really at home with you, and can send my soul enwrapped in you into the land of spirits - Yes, unhappily it must be so - You will be the more contained since you know my fidelity to you. No one else can ever possess my heart - never - never - Oh God, why must one be parted from one whom one so loves. And yet my life in V is now a wretched life - Your love makes me at once the happiest and the unhappiest of men - At my age I need a steady, quiet life - can that be so in our connection? My angel, I have just been told that the mailcoach goes every day - therefore I must close at once so that you may receive the letter at once - Be calm, only by a calm consideration of our existence can we achieve our purpose to live together - Be calm - love me - today - yesterday - what tearful longings for you - you - you - my life - my all - farewell. Oh continue to love me - never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved. ever thine. ever mine. ever ours." Originally published in 1924, this classic collection of love letters includes timelesscontributions from the likes of Beethoven, Keats, Lord Byron, Napoleon, Voltaire, Rousseau and Mozart, among many other.

    Best Book, Best Deal

If you are looking for the same exact love letters that are read in the move 'Sex and the City', look no further. This is the real deal. I should know, I have 3 copies of it. It is not only better than other editions (which are often only 100+ pages vs 340+ pages for this one), but you get the hardcover for the price of their paperback. It includes letters from the likes of Keats, Bethoven, Mozart, Voltaire, etc. etc. A beautiful book indeed. I am so happy with this purchase!

Not as romantic as Sex and the City portrayed

This book was chosen as our February (Valentine's) read for the book club that I am in. This was also the book used in the Sex and the City movie, however it was not nearly as romantic as it was portrayed by Carrie and Big when they were reading in bed. At times it was difficult to read, many great people are history are present in this book and it shows you exactly what they were thinking and feeling in their lives at that the time and how different our world today is based upon the advent of technology.

    Beautiful Letters!!

Very good book. Covers a variety of different eras. It was really wonderful to see how at times during war or when the couples were separated for one reason or another, these powerful men found comfort in writing their loved ones; and most often romantic letters. Sometimes all it takes is a pen and paper versus a cell phone to get your point across. Very romantic!
