Overview

The Summer Lake contemporary romance series follows a group of friends from a small lakeside town in the California hills. They have kept in touch over the years and now, in their early thirties, their lives are drawing them back to Summer Lake and to each other.

Love Like You've Never Been Hurt

Emma Douglas came to Summer Lake as an orphan twenty three years ago. After losing her parents so young and later suffering a disastrous marriage, she believes that love only ever leads to pain and loss.

When she meets Jack Benson, the business partner of her childhood friend Pete, she sees everything she used to long for in a man; tall, dark, and drop dead gorgeous! Despite their undeniable attraction, Emma is too scared to risk her heart, especially on a man so much like her ex - sexy, smart, funny, successful and no doubt the same kind of cheat!

When events lead them both to Summer Lake for the summer, will Jack be able to persuade her that he's nothing like her ex in all the ways that really matter? That the love she used to dream of isn't a little girl's fantasy, but a reality they can share if she can get past her fear and learn to trust?

This book is intended for adult readers 18+

Meet the Author

Hi, I'm SJ, a coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I'm a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can't write without coffee.

I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.

I write 'Sweet N Steamy' stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.

These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I'm not reading or writing you'll find me just down the road in the park - Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way :0)

I'd give it zero stars if I could..

Immature female lead surrounded by clueless people who seemed to be stuck in both the 60's and the 90's somehow...not a good recipe for a book.

    Okay I guess

The story isn't too bad. There are anlot ov very repeated sayings that became annoying. The Female lead was a baby eho needed to get over it. Likeva 15 year old in a adults hody. I found it hard 5obtet through.

OK story, but by the  last 50 pages or so I was wondering if I could stand to finish the book.  Emma just was too unbelievable of a character.  She supposedly writes screenplays and deals with Hollywood fake people, but acts like such an immature teenager instead of a mature, successful, career woman.   Good story line, but the "poor Emma" got old.

I loved the story and all the characters. i just ordered books 2 and 3! I agree with some of the other reviews about the overuse of the main characters nick-name, but get past that and you know you are on a sweet journey.

    great read

I think the overuse of Emma being afraid and paranoid was way overboard. Could have developed another storyline section to fill up pages. She was pretty immature in alot of the storyline.
I enjoyed all the other characters and the setting so much so getting ready to start book 2 in this series.

    Tiresome

I couldn't stand the tiresome whining of Emma and how her heart was too fragile to deal with another possible failed relationship.
Tiresome, unnecessary angst designed to keep the story going.
    I just couldn't! ....keep reading.

    Ok

Emma was neurotic. This was just a little too much neurosis for a romance novel. I skipped alot of pages because I was tired of Emma's issues early in the book. Maybe her character was relatable to an extent but this is fiction. I wish she could have gotten past her issue more quickly. The other characters seemed great. I want to read their stories. Glad this story was free

    Not too bad

Emma was too stubborn by the end. Her pain is relatable to many females but her tunnel vision irritated me. If I was Jack, I wouldn't have stuck around.

    Really enjoyed!

I really, really enjoyed this novel! Jack is so tall, dark, and handsome with one hell of a sweet side for Emma. Emma has been hurt deeply in the past by her ex-husband causing her to fear love and marriage. Jack has his work cut out for him when it comes to Emma, but he's willing to take the chance. Together, they discover the way love is supposed to be. You also meet several friends along the way - all leading to more books in this series.

The only reason I didn't give it a 5* review is because it had many punctuation and a few grammar errors.

I can't wait to see what happens in the next book with Pete & Holly!
