Lucille Ball was at the pinnacle of her success in show business, having teamed with Desi Arnaz (whom she had married in 1940) to make I Love Lucy and The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour and, after her divorce from Desi, The Lucy Show. No comedienne had made America laugh so hard, no television actress had made the leap from Ziegfeld, radio, and film to land on the nation's picture tubes with such zany style and comedic charm. Lucille Ball as Lucy Ricardo was a part of our lives then - and forty-five years later she still is. A recently discovered treasure, Love, Lucy is the valentine Lucille Ball left for her fans - the story of the ingenue from Jamestown, New York, determined to go to Broadway, destined to make a big splash, bound to marry her Valentino, Desi Arnaz. It tells of their life together - both storybook and turbulent: intimate stories of their children and friends; wonderful backstage anecdotes; the creation of the most popular show on TV; the production empire they founded; the dissolution of their marriage. And, with a heartfelt happy ending, her enduring marriage to Gary Morton.

Lovely memoir of Lucille Ball's beginnings

This book was written by Ms. Ball but apparently never meant to be published. She may have written it as a form of catharsis after her divorce from Desi Arnaz, but never intended to publish it because she did not want to hurt him. Ms. Ball was obviously a gentlewoman, a true lady in that she did not go into any great detail regarding the fighting or alcoholism, etc. Instead, she emphasizes the good parts of their relationship and even goes so far as to blame herself for a good part of the outcome as well. Ms. Ball gives a fairly detailed account of her childhood growing up in upstate NY and her beginnings as a fashion model, which gave her a leg up on winning bit parts here and there in early movies. Along the way, she gives an interesting picture of early New York life and how the movie studio contract system worked. She also gives insights into how "I Love Lucy" was conceptualized and refined by Desi Arnaz, whose administrative and creative talents in running the production behind the scenes was greatly underappreciated by the general public. It is a thoroughly enjoyable read and contains a number of family pictures which any "Lucyphile" will love to have. If this book had been written today, Ms. Ball would no doubt have been forced by her publisher to transform it into a lurid tell-all, but because it was penned in the early '60's (and as I said earlier, not meant to be published), she was able to keep the account pretty moderate by today's standards. Highly recommended, particularly for fans.

There will be times when you laugh with lucy and cry throughout the entire book. It sums up her point of view and how she faced life. It is indeed a gripping novel and is a page-turner for sure. The Only Book Worth Having!

You kno im only 22 years old and alot of people in my generation dont know all that much about the Leading Lady of comedy. I started watching her series 'I Love Lucy' when i was 3 and never stopped! When i was 15 i saw her series ' The Lucy Show' When i hit 20 they released 'Here's Lucy' on dvd and i just had to know more about her so i got this book and nothing can compare because its by Lucy herself. I cried, Laughed felt her dissappointment with her failures and its the only book i own that makes me feel every emotion possible just by turning the page. Its the reality of her life and the many many things she went through in her life. Nothing else can possibly compare. Buy it and see for yourself!

    Lucy Fan For Life

I loved this book. I have been a great admirer of Lucille Ball for many years. Her shows and movies captivate me. I only recently discovered that she had written a book about herself. I rushed to get it and finished it in about 2 days. I couldn't put it down. I laughed I cried. I shared her happiness and her sorrow and I was so happy that this story came from her and was in her own words. I never was able to meet her seeing she died only two years after I was born. But I will always remember the first episode of 'I Love Lucy' that I watched and the first time I saw one of her films. She will always be an inspiration to me and will make me laugh forever. Thank You Lucy, wherever you are!

    Loved It!

If you love Lucy, then you will love this book. It was so enjoyable to read, especially since you can picture her telling the story. I loved hearing the stories about the movie star life int he 40's..nothing can compare to that now.

A book full of memories good and bad from our favorite clown

As a huge fan of Lucy and Desi, this is one of the most heartfelt books I have read on the subject. Lucille Ball went through a lot of trying times from childhood to her death, and she shares her feelings and memories in vivid account. It is a shame about how the marriage ended, but the two never forgot each other and their undying love continued. Great book!

    Another reason to Love, Lucy

If you are a Lucille Ball fan you must read this book. It is insightful and opens your eyes to the true Lucy behind the I Love Lucy show. Her story is touching as well as uplifting. I was specifically curious abuot her marriage to Desi and the falling out they had. All of my questions were answered. Lucy also shares much about her childhood and family which I appreciated. Don't be put off by the fact that it is an autobiography. Lucy tells her story in a truly "Lucy" way.

    Lucy is WONDERFUL!

This was an awesome book. Ever since I was a little girl I always watched I Love Lucy. She is such a beautiful and funny actress. When reading this book I got to know more about Lucille Ball; including her success in business, her wonderful family, and her tragic mishaps. It was very interesting to hear about how determined Lucille was to go to Broadway and how her most popular show on TV, was created. I learned alot about Lucille through tears and laughter. I also loved looking at the pictures of Lucille and her family. For all the Lucille Ball fans, this intreging book will keep you on toes and you will not regret reading it.

    Absolutely wonderful!

It was charming, funny, true, and inspiring. What better than to hear from a wonderful actress in her own words, (even though it was co-written). Lucille Ball's voice really shines through the pages, and you feel as if she is confiding in you, her dear old friend. There are many biographies about Lucille Ball, but this one rings true... you can get the real version of any cliched stories. This book will make you laugh, cry, and ultimately hold Lucille ball with even more love and respect.

    Even now she's perfect!

Lucille Ball our beloved American red head. As many others she made television history many years ago, but there's something different about her "she's still in our hearts". Lucille Ball the queen of comedy did it again! In this incredible biography about herself i read things i never knew before, and made my choice with lucy permanent. It shows the real her the comedianne the actress the "woman" she was. It is outstanding and an incredible read. Perfect for Lucy fans and others alike. Don't miss out!

The Book Is A Must Have!!!

I read this book three years ago and it gives all the details you would want to know about Lucy, and her life. The book also has a picture section where you can see pctures of her and her family, when Lucy was just a baby. I've been a fan of Lucy since I was a teenager and this book informed me on everything I would want to know about Lucy and her whole life. There is so much you will learn from this book that you couldn't even possibly know before. Sometimes I get bored with books, but not this one. It was a very detailed book, and I think no matter what your age you you will love this book. The book in my oppinion is priced too cheap for the detail that you will recieve, but it is well worth every penny you will spend.

    I LOVE LUCY!!!

This was a great autobiography!!! I picked it up as I was leaving our library, and couldn't put it down for the next two days. I read whenever I got a break from work, I read in the car and at home!!! This is a fine piece of literature that really is written like a novel. With so many twists and turns, it tells Lucille's story in an incredibly addicting way. Be prepared to shed a tear, and laugh your guts out! I also love that this book is full of pictures of her, her family, and friends. A true work of art! GO LUCY!!!
