Jesus said, "You must love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." - Luke10:27

If one had to choose a single verse in the Bible that is a formula for successful living, this would be the one to live by, says Joyce Meyer: love God, yourself and others - in that order.

Overview

Jesus said, "You must love the Lord your God with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself." - Luke10:27

If one had to choose a single verse in the Bible that is a formula for successful living, this would be the one to live by, says Joyce Meyer: love God, yourself and others - in that order.

Many Christians get mixed up about love. They know they should love God and others, but many do not understand that loving oneself is one-third of God's equation. They mistakenly think of it as selfishness or self-aggrandizement.

Joyce Meyer believes that this misconception is one of the greatest pitfalls in the Christian journey. Loving oneself in a balanced, healthy manner is essential in order to have healthy relationships with God, ourselves and others.

Drawing upon her previous work and teaching series as well as original devotions, the author of Power Thoughts examines the three loves that we've been commanded to exhibit.

Editorial Reviews

Loving oneself as well as your neighbor is not as easy it sounds. Many good Christians misunderstand or ignore this Gospel directive, damaging not only themselves but also their relationships with others and their Creator. In this gathering of 365 daily devotions, bestselling author Joyce Meyer (Living Beyond Your Feelings; Power Thoughts) invites readers to explore the three loves at the center of their faith. A full year of meditations to enhance the quality of your life as a Christian believer.

I have enjoyed this book. People "like" but Joyce reminds us that God wants us to Love ~ Love Him, love ourselves, love everyone and everything around us. Sometimes that's difficult to remember. Each day starts with a bible verse on love, a couple of paragraphs on how the verse connects to our everyday life, and then a one or two sentence comment that could be a prayer or a suggestion to get yourself with the program and apply the lesson. The day's devotional is easy to read, pertinent to our lives, and a positive uplift that can keep the reader on tract during the day's ups and downs. There simply isn't enough love in our lives and Joyce is reminding us to include it with God's blessing.

"Come on Isabella, we're gonna be late to go to Dad's!" My older sister, Grace, called to me. It was the last day of school, and I had had hardly any time to say goodbye to my best friend Katelyn. Katelyn and I have been friends since Kindergarten; we pretty much did everything together. We went on camping trips together, attended the same church, and shared a lot of the same friends. But now that she was moving away.... "I'm gonna miss you so much, Katelyn." I said, wiping away a tear. Katelyn just smiled. "I know." She said, as she gently combed her fingers through my long, brown hair. "It's going to be hard for me at a new school, and I'm going to miss seeing all of our friends, and going camping with you and your family, but I'll write to you every week, and you can come visit whenever you'd like..." "COME ON IZZY!!! Dad's waiting!" Grace was getting a little impatient. "Okay, coming!" I turned back to Katelyn. "Deal." I gave her a small but heart-felt smile. "But you'd better remember: Every monday! I'll always write back!" "Promise?" "Promise." I gave her one last hug before Katelyn's mom came to bring her home. Tears were pouring down my face so fast and so hard that I was sure that I could cry myself a river and pretend that everything was going to be alright, even when I knew it wasn't. Nothing was ever going to be the same. As they pulled out of the driveway, I sadly watched until they drove completely out of sight. THE END OF CHAPTER 1 MORE TO COME I PROMISE THERE WILL BE A HAPPY ENDING BUT A SAD BEGINNING AND MIDDLE.

When you read this you will say I know that already, but never understood or applied it to my life in thisway. Its hard to learn to love yourself without being told that is selfish. You have to start with you. Daily encouragment.with Bible scripture and how you can apply it to your lfe become the person God has always wanted us to be. I kept a notebook and jotted down alot of points I need to remind myself. I didnt take a year to read this, read several aday. There are several that touched me deeply. The one that stands out ,"as long as you dont give up you are making progress." Read it with your Bible.
