Love and Redemption had me from the first page. Michael, one of the main characters does something he regrets and someone offers to free him in exchange for a 'favor'. As we all know there are always strings attached, but in the heat of the moment he grabs at this chance. The story takes us through many of the evils of the world but through it all the main characters and even some of the supporting characters are holding on to HIM through it all. Faith! I am already itching to read the next one, thankfully it comes out later this year. I was given this book by Crossreads in exchange for my honest review.

When a story wraps itself around your heart so completely and fiercely as this one did, there is nothing you can do except hold on for dear life. This is a story that immediately took up residence in the most sensitive places of my soul. I can’t explain how that happened or why for that matter, but all I know is how I felt throughout this grueling trek. My heart felt like it was laid open and bared for the entire world. The vulnerability was not pleasant, and the lesson was a hard one to experience. Like one of many in the Irish community found in New York after the end of the Civil War, Michael O'Fallen’s only purpose in life was to just survive from day to day. His family had all been taken from him by sickness one by one until he was left all alone. What started out as the day that stole his freedom actually placed him on a whirlwind path that would lead him straight into the arms of our loving Savior. He would be tried and tested in more ways than he could have ever imagined. As is God’s way, He taught Michael about His love and grace in the form of the young woman who would become his wife. As they faced horrendous struggles and unexpected surprises along the way, the love and redemption that Michael so yearned for was placed before his feet. All he had to do was make the decision to reach out and take hold of it. He was forced to finally decide whether to give his life and his heart to the Lord where it belongs or to continue to try and do things his own way. I was completely enthralled with the characters that I found in this story. They were fierce, stubborn, hopeful, and beautiful. There was a unique intensity and purity that flowed throughout the pages that refused to be drowned out by the pain and ugliness that that stubbornly clung around until its bitter end. The richness of the lessons lived out by these amazing people really hit home for me in many ways. The evidence of what true and pure love can accomplish far outweighs the evil in this world. If only people would take notice of that and hold those beautiful images in their heart to always remember and cling to when things get hard. Perhaps our world would become a little bit brighter as a result. This is the first full length novel that I have read by Suzanne D. Williams, and I was completely caught up in this incredible story from the very beginning. I knew I would read and experience great things, and it delivered in grand style. I continue to be amazed and thorough impressed by this author’s stunning talent. She is a well of never-ending wisdom, hope, and love that flows from our Abba Father.
