Overview

SHE’S WRITING ABOUT HIM. HE’S WRITING ABOUT HER. AND EVERYBODY IS READING BETWEEN THE LINES.

For Erin Blackwell, majoring in creative writing at the New York City college of her dreams is more than a chance to fulfill her ambitions—it’s her ticket away from the tragic memories that shadow her family’s racehorse farm in Kentucky. But when she refuses to major in business and take over the farm herself someday, her grandmother gives Erin’s college tuition and promised inheritance to their maddeningly handsome stable boy, Hunter Allen. Now Erin has to win an internship and work late nights at a local coffee shop to make her own dreams a reality. She should despise Hunter . . . so why does he sneak into her thoughts as the hero of her latest writing assignment?

Then, on the day she’s sharing that assignment with her class, Hunter walks in. He’s joining her class. And after he reads about himself in her story, her private fantasies about him must be painfully clear. She only hopes to persuade him not to reveal her secret to everyone else. But Hunter devises his own creative revenge, writing sexy stories that drive the whole class wild with curiosity and fill Erin’s heart with longing. Now she’s not just imagining what might have been. She’s writing a whole new ending for her romance with Hunter . . . except this story could come true.

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 10 Up—Erin Blackwell moves to New York City from Kentucky to go to college, and even though her grandmother wants her to study business, she follows her dream of becoming a romance writer. She wonders how the students in her creative writing class will react to the first story she's sharing with them-a historical romance that stars a male lead based on Hunter, the stable boy who works on her grandmother's farm, and her crush. To her utter horror, Hunter walks into class that very day. Realizing that Erin's story is about him, he decides to write his own. In class, the two battle their pasts and feelings for each other through assignments. Outside of class, Erin isn't sure if she can trust Hunter, especially since her grandmother refused to pay for Erin's education and instead gave her college money to him. As she begins to believe his feelings for her are genuine, she learns more about Hunter's deal with her grandmother to get her home. This is a pretty typical romance story. Erin and Hunter are likable characters and their romance will keep readers turning the pages, but both are at times unrealistic. Erin's issues keep piling up as the story moves along, through flashbacks and her assignments for her creative writing class. There is some sex in the story, but it isn't explicit. The secondary characters stay in the background. An additional purchase where romance is popular.—Natalie Struecker, Rock Island Public Library, IL

    My new favorite Echols book!!!

Erin is a 'love starved novelist' who has moved to New York to study in a prestigious creative writing program. This has always been her dream but she never expected to be doing it like this. She left Kentucky and her family fortune behind. Or more like, in the hands of Hunter who basically took over her life, her inheritance, and her family horse farm because she refused to study business like her grandmother had requested. At one time, Erin thought that Hunter and she would share an intimate connection but now that he is her arch nemesis she is reduced to fantasizing about what could have been. In fact, her first short story is an erotic portrayal of a night with her 'stable boy' aka Hunter. As the class prepares to critique her story none other than Hunter himself walks in to join them! *Gasp*!!!

Seriously, I. Would. Die. It is just Erin's luck to have to sit there as Hunter reads the fantasy she wrote about him, while she dies of mortification. This sets the tone for the hilarious back and forth that ensues between Erin and Hunter for the rest of the book. They are more likely to trample each other's hearts than to find a way to move past their awkward history with one another.

There are only three things that can make me a true fangirl of an author: a perfect ending, smart-ass characters, or unexpected plot twists. Echols has hit the trifecta! Everything that makes a book unputdownable all rolled into one. And even better is that she does it with every book she writes. I can really appreciate her writing because the dialogue between her characters makes me a smarter reader. So, if you come looking for a great summer read all I am going to say is, Are you ready for a Love Story?

    Great Premise

This book took me by surprise. I know it's a Jennifer Echols book right? I should not be surprised. But, this book was so different. This book immediately captured my attention. The opening of the book starts off with a story that Erin has written for her creative writing class and I was so into it that I didn't want it to end. All I could think about is how Jennifer should write a historical romance novel. I would definitely buy it. She could write any type of story and I would buy it.

What I enjoyed the most about LOVE STORY was the premise. Here you have a creative writing class with characters writing about each other and through their stories, you learn more and more about them. The fact that some of the stories were quite hot was a plus too. One thing that I can say is that Jennifer writes the best relationships with great male leads. I don't know how you cannot fall in love with her characters.

I look forward to reading anything this author writes and that says a lot. If you're huge Echols fan like me then you won't be disappointed with LOVE STORY.

I love Jennifer Echols and but hate her endings!

I love Jennifer Echols' books. This one caught me off guard from the get go but in a good way. The book starts off from the main character's creative writing story. As a writer I could totally relate to the character in this story. I love the way the plot unfolds and as always, Echols' characters are realistic and multidimensional yet easy to read.

I was captivated by this story and would have given it 10 stars but I hate how the story ended. I felt some sort of closure but not really. I love all her stories but feel they don't give us much for endings...there were so many unanswered questions at the end of this story, even more so than her others in my opinion. It just left me so frustrated and annoyed but won't keep me from reading her next book.

    3.5 stars...A MUST READ REVIEW

Ok, so who doesnt love Jennifer Echols? I mean, seriously, her romances are so well crafted...and she makes sure that the guys are way hot. Same with this book. Absolutely adored Hunter Allen, and Erin sounded like a well-put-together girl. The stoy of their romance will haunt you and leave you yearning for one of your own. Now,to the parts that could use improvement. Reading some of the othe reviews, I see that their were requests for a better ending. I absolutely AGREE with these pleas. I mean, really, the authoress could have made it so much more romantic...as opposed to "Come have Thanksgiving dinner with your Grandmother, and it will all work out." Really!? ARE YOU FOR REAL GOING TO END IT LIKE THAT! Anyway, I also thought Erin was a little bit hard to crack, if you can excuse my parlance... I found her difficult to really empathize with.

    Was an ok read....

I was really excited for the chance to read Love Story. This is my second read by Ms. Echols, my first being Forget You, which I enjoyed. I pushed Love Story to the top of my reading stack; I was so excited to read it. I really love a good love story, so I couldn¿t wait to get started on this.

I really liked the story. I thought the plot was very believable and well paced. I read the book in a very short period of time. It was a quick read, but it was also, somewhat, an emotional read. The writing was really wonderful; I love Ms. Echols way of telling stories.

Unfortunately, I didn¿t really connect with the characters, at all. Actually, I liked Erin in the beginning of the book, she was very determined to go after the future she wanted for herself. But towards the end of the book it seems like she just gave up. I didn¿t really care for Hunter at all; I thought he was a jerk. I didn¿t really care for their relationship either. They were all over the place. One second they liked each other, the next they didn¿t. It was confusing trying to keep up with them. I did like some of the secondary characters, mostly Erin¿s roommates. I do wish that they had a bigger part in the story.
I would recommend this book to the older YA crowd, as it has a lot of sexual talk involved.

Overall, I enjoyed the book, but not so much the characters. That is just my opinion, and I¿m sure everyone else will like them. Unfortunately, they just didn¿t work for me. The story, however, was great.

I'm not even a contemporary reader, but I really enjoyed this.

I'm not a contemporary reader, but have to say that I really enjoyed Love Story.
Out of the whole book my favorite parts were when Erin and Hunter shared their stories in class. Both writing about each other and looking at it differently. "She's writing about him. he's writing about her. And everybody is reading between the lines... " describes this book perfectly. What I didn't know about was the strong back story. Erin and Hunter's history go way deeper than what I was expecting.
I LOVE the settings. Freshman college students in New York and then them going back to Kentucky with the horses and the beautiful land. It was really nice reading about college students instead of high school students. They aren't officially adults, but it shows the life Erin has to go through to survive without her grandma's money.
The characters were very interesting. I found that I really liked Erin's character because she was stubborn and often defensive. Those were some real qualities in someone that I really enjoyed reading about. Plus she had a really neat dream to become a writer and that she loved to read. Hunter on the other hand was a bit questionable. I didn't feel like I knew him and I could have cared less with what he did. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy those Hunter moments, but I just couldn't put a finger on who he is.
The writing was really great and very easy. The chemistry between Hunter and Erin were one of the reasons I stayed up all night and woke up early in the morning to finish this book. Love Story was my first Jennifer Echols book, but it's definitely not going to be my last.
