Love to Love You, Baby: A Tribute to Donna Summer

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Rob Theakston
In the mighty and vast world of tribute albums, often the results and quality fall woefully short of the bar originally set by the original artist. While Love to Love You, Baby doesn't eclipse Donna Summer's legacy, it reasonably updates her finest moments to a more contemporary dance music sound with reverence and vibrancy. Starting with a high-energy progressive house take on her duet with Barbra Streisand, legendary house divas Jocelyn Brown and Kym Mazelle belt out "Enough Is Enough" with enough gusto to last beyond its comparatively short running time of five minutes. Contributions from '80s pop stars such as Laura Branigan, Sheena Easton, soul genius Brenda Russell,...

Contributions from '80s pop stars such as Laura Branigan, Sheena Easton, soul genius Brenda Russell, and synth pop heroes Soft Cell anchor a compilation that finds even the most obscure of artists stepping up to the plate and knocking each song out of the ballpark. Fans expecting a straight nonstop disco explosion may find the updates a bit off-putting, but those willing to go along with the updates will find this to be a tribute album worthy of its honoree.

    Long Overdue Tribute to Summer!!!!!!

I cannot believe that there hasn't been a tribute album to Ms Donna Summer before this compilation!! Thanks KOCH for thinking of her. The songs on here are Donna Summer songs that have been covered over the last two decades. They include some of the big hits and some of Summer's lesser known, but still grand songs..My personal favorites are the EG Daily cover of Sunset People, Michelle Weeks cover of Heaven Knows, Sheena Easton's Love is in Control, Laura Branigan's Dim All The Lights, Brenda Russell's Dinner with Gershwin, & Juliet Roberts' Bad Girls.....I love the dance mix of Donna's duet with the multi-talented Bruce Roberts too! The two new recordings of Could It Be Magic & Last Dance are vastly different versions of the originals, more of a slower jazzy feel. There are definitely better covers out there...check out No Doubt's cover of Love to Love You Baby from the Zoolander soundtrack, Heart's cover of The Woman In Me, No More Tears covered by Andy Bell & KD Lang from The Coneheads soundtrack, I Feel Love covered by Blue Man Group, Vanessa Mae, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blondie & quite a few others....
