Overview

True love needs no disguise.

Kaitlyn Nichols craves a little mystery and mayhem in her life. Having a secret agent for a father should do the trick, but unfortunately Dad is no 007, and danger is nowhere on the horizon.

But all that changes when Mr. Nichols brings home Blaine, a seventeen-year-old hottie who's about to enter the Witness Protection Program. Suddenly Kaitlyn's in the perilous position of protecting the cutest guy she's ever met!

When Dad enrolls Blaine in her high school, it's up to Kait to detect the girls who want him...and the guys who want him dead. Meanwhile, Kait's about to discover that there's one little thing she can't protect — her heart.

Editorial Reviews

KLIATT
16-year-old Kaitlyn doesn't exactly have ordinary parents. Her father is a secret agent for the FBI and her mother recently accepted a job with the local St. Louis newspaper writing a sex column. Kaitlyn has always kept her father's job a secret and now she wishes she could keep her mother's under wraps, too. As if that's not enough, her father brings home gorgeous Blaine, a 17-year-old in the Witness Protection Program. Now Kaitlyn has another secret to keep. Blaine assumes a new name, Gordon, and masquerades as Kaitlyn's third cousin from Georgia. Kaitlyn, formerly sort of a social outcast, becomes the center of attention at school as everyone tries to get close to Blaine/Gordon. Meanwhile, Kaitlyn uses her free time to become an expert on spy tactics. She works hard to keep anyone from getting too close to Blaine, for his own good and just maybe for her own selfish reasons. Though the premise is enjoyable, the story is fairly dry. Blaine, despite his good looks and his charming personality, comes off as surprisingly naive. He never seems particularly suspicious of people or concerned for his safety—unlike Kaitlyn, who is always on the lookout. Over and over again Blaine takes sides against Kaitlyn, who he seemingly knows pretty well, and with Amber, Kaitlyn's nefarious sworn enemy. Readers looking for a light, romantic story with a bit of an edge will be satisfied with this quick, blithe read.

Reviewed by Andie Z. for TeensReadToo.com

Kaitlyn Nichols doesn't have your typical parents. Her father is a member of the FBI secret service and is often gone for long periods of time. Her mother is a sex (excuse me, "relationship") columnist, and her research frequently involves piles of thongs and condoms lying around the house. However, despite what one might think, her parents' work doesn't usually affect Kaitlyn too much. Until now.

Enter Blaine Donovan, AKA "Gordon," AKA the son of a Texas billionaire, AKA major hottie. Blaine's father is in the middle of a big business deal, and his rivals have started threatening the family. So, Kaitlyn's dad has put Blaine in the Witness Protection Program as Gordon Dennis Nichols, Kaitlyn's third-cousin who has come to live with her family and go to school with her for a few months.

Now Kaitlyn is responsible for keeping Blaine safe and watching out for anything suspicious. She brushes up on her spy tricks by watching Alias, The Bourne Identity, and James Bond, and she feels ready to handle anything that comes her way. But when she starts to fall for Blaine, she realizes that she's broken the number one rule of being a secret agent: she's gotten emotionally involved.

I've really enjoyed all the books in the Simon Romantic Comedies series, and LOVE UNDERCOVER is a great addition. The spy stuff doesn't overwhelm the book, but it's just enough to be fun, and Kaitlyn deals with problems that every teenager faces: liking the popular boy who doesn't know you exist, dealing with mean popular girls, and occasionally keeping secrets, even from best friends. I definitely hope that Jo Edwards contributes more books to the Romantic Comedies series -- and soon!

    Totally Incredible!

A clumsy, scrawny girl protecting a hot guy from danger? Is this even possible? This book will blow you away. Very funny and twisted! Revenge is nothing if you don't read this book. How can one girl cause so much damage? Please read this book. You won't regret it! I promise! I am loving me this book. I think I'll read it again. It's priceless. No lie!

    Saddeningly Disappointing

The most disappointing thing about this book was it's lack of mystery. It's only in the very begining and the very end, and then for the whole rest of book it's forgotten. And I thought the characters where cliche. I wouldn't recommened it, but if your still interestead I would recommened checking it out at the library first.

Check out: anything by Meg Cabot, Audrey Wait by Robin Benway, Bad Kitty series by Michele Jaffe, and Girl 15 series by Sue Limb.

    A reviewer

This book is very funny and Kaitlyn is easy to like, she faces the problems that teens today face in their school, a boy she likes but doesn't see her, a mean popular girl, and is falling for the guy that her dad brought home for the witness protection program. Well maybe ateen doesn't face all those problems but 2 out of 3 isn't bad. the book is great and keeps you intertained, Blaine is great and you cant help but love. I would recommend it for sure. Go out and buy it...What are you waiting for? ............GO!!!!

    stereotypical but funny

I thought this book was cute and funny, but I really hated the stereotype teen as the main character. By the end of the book i was annoyed by her. It was funny though and put a smile on my face at times.
