Great read; nice way to spend the day. This is my 4th book by Nicole Jordan and have yet to be disappointed. My only question is: where are these men in real life? Or do they just exist between the pages of romance novels? Enjoy!

This is the third book by NJ I have read. In the past year I also read, ¿Lord of Seduction¿ (so-so) and ¿Master of Temptation¿ (so-so). I have to admit now that I¿ve read a third book by this author¿I can see a real pattern forming. The set up goes something like this¿hot gal meets hot and arrogant guy, sexual interest begins, sexual intimacy occurs, sexual intimacy continues on and on and on and on. Everything seems to get lost in the never ending sex-o-rama that occurs. I do feel the author is tasteful in her intimacy/sex writing so, that¿s a plus. But for me in this book, it¿s too much and too often. I usually find plenty to like in most heroines but¿Sabrina was a lost cause for me. It was fine that she was not the traditional beauty and that her appeal came from her strength of character, loyalty to her family/clan and her intelligence. First she starts out quiet, timid and a bit dull¿then once she and the hero get together¿she finds her calling in the highlands with her family and clan and comes out of her shell and is more feisty, strong willed and assertive. That new strength was a positive but, she often became very weak willed when it came to our hero and that wasn¿t appealing to me. I wanted her to stand up for herself properly and didn¿t feel it came enough until later in the book. The constant accusations Sabrina threw at Niall - he was a cad, cheat, womanizer, skirt chaser and more...got old as it was page, after page, after page....Our hero Niall was constantly described as the ultimate lover boy of the highlands and gals from continents far and wide ¿knew¿ of him. Although, I appreciate the main lead being a handsome, debonair and suave guy¿I don¿t care for him to be in the pants of practically every living, breathing creature on the earth that is a girl. Niall was busy practicing for highland war games, flirting with girls, or trying to having sex with someone (Sabrina, his old mistress Eve, a house maid or others). I didn¿t care for the silly pet names he gave Sabrina either ¿ mouse, tiger, etc. She¿s a woman for goodness sake¿not a jungle animal. Frankly¿I was hard pressed to find him a love story hero. The story line was a bit too predictable from the arranged marriage, to the relationship sparring, the sex and then the conclusion. The small war fighting back and forth between the clans seemed a minor side story line. No other characters stood out much or were memorable in this book. I would like to give 2 ½ stars but¿I can¿t. I¿ll lean toward 3 stars to be nice. I would call this book ok, not great. I¿m off to the next one.

This was the first book of Nicole Jordan's that I have read. Overall, I felt it was a good read. Very steamy and I loved the battle scene. I loved how Niall (Europe's most notorious lover) fell so hard for little Sabrina. Very cute. The only thing I wish the author would have done less is focus on how handsome Niall was and what a great lover he was. O.k. I got the point from the beginning, but I didn't need to be reminded of that every other page. But, that aside, I liked the story and how Sabrina ended up being a stunning woman by the end. She actually was always beautiful, most of her 'ordinary looks' were all in her head and Niall worked hard to try to convince her just how desirable she really was.

Set in 1739, Scotland. Originally printed in 1997, story is very exciting and passionate. Not as great as alot of Jordan's other books but still very good.

I discovered author Nicole Jordan about four years ago. The first novel that I read was The Passion, book II in her Notorious Series, and I was instantly hooked. After an enjoyable reading experience, I immediately purchased her back-list and have been a devoted fan ever since. No matter what she writes, I¿ve never been disappointed and she is an auto-buy for me. I love her intense and emotional story-lines and romantic settings. From romantic Regency England to the mystical Scottish Highlands, when you read a Nicole Jordan book, you feel as if you were swept away to another place in time, experiencing the loves, passions, trials and tribulations of her characters. With larger than life heroes, strong and determined heroines, you can¿t help but get caught up, rooting for love to conquer all. Her love scenes are lush and amazingly sensual but filled with intense emotion. And there is nothing more gratifying when after you finish you say ¿that was an amazing book.¿ It has been some time since I read the original version of THE LOVER. So as I read the revised version, the changes instantly came to me. This book is closer to Ms. Jordan¿s original vision and it was a most satisfying read. As with the first time, I enjoyed the transformation of a rake discovering love from the most unlikely source, his wife and reform his wicked ways and a plain wallflower blossoming into a beautiful rose, finally recognizing her true worth and inner beauty. I highly recommend The Lover, you will not be disappointed.

Overview
From bestselling author Nicole Jordan comes a tale of timeless beauty, fierce passion, and heart-pounding love in the Scottish Highlands.Niall McLaren was as dangerous and beguiling as the Highlands itself, a man unparalleled in the arts of war and of love. Even in the stately ballrooms of Edinburgh where Sabrina Duncan first laid eyes on the powerful laird who would one day be her husband, he exuded an intoxicating sensuality. It was rumored that the touch of his lips could draw the very soul from a woman’s body—and when he pulled Sabrina into his arms, she had no doubts: The kiss ...
