Overview

A book that left burn marks on night tables across continents, 'Lovers And Gamblers 'has become a Collins classic. It features two of her most memorable characters: Al King, the rock-and-roll superstud who is everything any sex-crazed groupie ever imagined her hero to be; and Dallas, the beauty queen whose sky-high ambitions stem from a sordid secret—the type that tabloids tingle to tell. Together, they're on a wild ride from London to New York, from Hollywood to Rio and the steaming jungles of the Amazon—where all their dreams and nightmares are about to come true.

Meet the Author

There have been many imitators, but only Jackie Collins can tell you what really goes on in the fastest lane of all. From Beverly Hills bedrooms to a raunchy prowl along the streets of Hollywood; from glittering rock parties and concerts to stretch limos and the mansions of power brokers-Jackie Collins chronicles the real truth from the inside looking out.

Jackie Collins has been called a "raunchy moralist" by the late director Louis Malle and "Hollywood's own Marcel Proust" by Vanity Fair magazine. With more than 500 million copies of her books sold in more than forty countries, and with some thirty New York Times bestsellers to her credit, Jackie Collins is one of the world's top-selling novelists. She is known for giving her readers an unrivaled insider's knowledge of Hollywood and the glamorous lives and loves of the rich, famous, and infamous. "I write about real people in disguise," she says. "If anything, my characters are toned down-the truth is much more bizarre."

If you love Jackie Collins writing style and characters you will love Lovers and Gamblers. Dallas and Al King are truly some of Jackie Collins best characters. You will want to read this book. I only wish she would have written a sequel to this book to find out what happens to Dallas and Al King and if they get together forever.

Al King is a famous performer. He wants Miss Coast to Coast, Dallas. Dallas came from a life that she tries to hide. Prostitution, lesbianism (though forced), and attempted murder would tarnish her crown if the word got out. Al King wants in her pants, as he wants in the pants of all pretty ladies. Dallas wants no part of that. She came from being a sex toy to being top of the world. Why go back down the hill? This book has 592 pages. Only text books should be that long. I overlooked that point. Too often reviewers will rate a book on the well known name of the author. Jackie Collins is a talented author. Is it Jackie Collins' best book? No, but it is still good.

LOVERS AND GAMBLERS Jackie Collins Grand Central Publishing Mass Market ISBN: 978-0-446-35660-2 - Paperback $6.99 592 pages Reviewer: Annie Slessman Summer is coming and nothing makes a better beach read than a Jackie Collins book. LOVERS AND GAMBLERS, originally published in the seventies, is back. Al King, rock superstar is married and has a young son. However, this doesn't stop him from sampling the many women along his career path. Along the way he sees one woman he is unable to impress, Miss Coast to Coast, Dallas Lunde. Dallas, former prostitute, has set her sights on improving her place in this world. She sees King as just one more rock star who wants to have her. While the first two parts of this book deal mainly with Al King's sexual prowess and Dallas as she attempts to deal with her former life and the people who can ruin her new career, it also brings into play the other characters who round out this work. The last part of the book has more depth than the earlier sections. It deals with the survival of several survivors of an airplane crash. In the wilds of the South American jungle the metal of their wills are tested with surprising results. Don't let this summer go by without taking a day to go the beach and enjoy not only the sun, but also LOVERS AND GAMBLERS.
