Love's Executioner and Other Tales of Psychotherapy based on 0 ratings. 2 reviews.
I read this book as extra credit for my Abnormal Psychology class. I am now recommending it to my 'nonpsychology' type friends. The stories of these 10 patients are so interesting you feel that you know them personally even after a couple of pages. If you are even remotely interested in human behavior you will love this book.
Having read one of Yalom¿s fiction works, I expected to enjoy this book, and I did ¿ immensely. I like psychology and read a lot of non-fiction works. This book deals with a serious subject in an entertaining way, the stories read like fiction and are certainly 'stranger than fiction.' In the Prologue, Yalom provides a brief introduction to Existential Psychotherapy, a core part of his technique. This is not a self-help or how-to book, but one can learn from the examples while enjoying the easy narrative writing style. Anyone with an appreciation for psychotherapy should love this book. Even those who think shrinks should be shrunk would probably find it entertaining and interesting if not enlightening.
