NAMED ONE OF THE MUST-READ ROMANCES OF THE YEAR BY USA TODAY • Violetta Rand’s explosive Lies & Leather series kicks off with a red-hot motorcycle racer who rides hard and plays for keeps.
Twenty-one-year-old Karlie Augustine is a survivor. She’s smart and tough, but she’s in too deep with a bad boyfriend who isn’t above breaking her spirit—or her body. Luckily, help arrives in the form of a leather-clad, motorcycle-riding hunk on the right side of the law. Lucas Lafontaine is pure muscle, a Corpus Christi cop who ignites something primal deep within Karlie. And when he offers her room and board in exchange for housekeeping, she finally starts to feel safe again.
As their arrangement turns deliciously decadent, Lucas gets hooked on Karlie’s killer body and fighting spirit. He wants to heal the pain he sees behind her eyes, but to protect her he needs to keep her close, especially now that her psycho ex won’t take a hint. Even as Lucas fights his own battle for custody of his young son, he knows that what he’s found with Karlie is real—and that he’d do anything to protect the woman he wants to take to the finish line.

## Awesome read. This couple was terrific together. I loved how possessive and protective the hero was. Also, I loved that the heroine was beautiful and education was important to her. Sure, there were several things that didn't add up. How did this foster kid go to culinary school? Why did she "almost" graduate. Don't get me wrong, I love a heroine who can cook. But why didn't she finish and persue it? Also, her size was a tad weird. She was 5ft., 100 lbs with 36DD. Say what? Maybe a 32 at most. In addition, I find it difficult to fathom a young woman who just ended an abusive relationship 2 days prior, would let a man tie her up during sex. That was something that should've come further down the line. Anyway, all those things are pretty minor and only MY opinion. I still enjoyed the hell out of this book and I know I will be reading it again and again.

Loved that they were bikers but not outlaw bikers in the story. There are a lot of good bikers in the world. The story makes you laugh, makes you wonder what's next, and I couldn't put it down.

All I can say is I want a guy like Lucas! Protective, loving, and just what a strong woman in need of support needs! Would have preferred to see Conner get more of what he deserved...

Karlie was living with her abusive boyfriend Connor for about two years. But without him she would be homeless. Karlie has never known love growing up in the foster care system. Connor was Karlie’s first lover but it has been five months since they had sex. Karlie does try to do what she and going to school and she loves racing in the Powder Puff League, Karlie does have some issues with her self worth. Then Lucas comes to Karlie’s rescue and he is a cop . he even offered her a place to live as long as she cooked and cleans. Lucas was married six years ago and is fighting his ex for their son. I really liked this story and plot at times it did bring tears to my eyes. Other times it made me chuckle. There was definitely enough drama to keep you interested. The only problem I had was how soon Karlie slept with Lucas. She just got out a abusive relationship. It takes awhile after something like that to even be attracted to someone new and she didn’t really know Lucas. But otherwise I loved the story. Characters were off the wall especially Karlie and all the twists and turns she goes through. Lucas as well I recommend. I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

What a ride! Rand took me on an emotional, heartbreaking, at times bone breaking journey through love, loss, redemption, and friendship. I loved the indepth stories for each of the characters. Their pasts are as important to the current events as their present choices. Rand mixes chemistry and sheer sensuality with the hardships of overcoming abuse and missing family. It broke my heart to watch the characters go through these trials, yet the story was so heartfelt and hot that I was hooked. That said, I found that everything was tied up in just a little bit too neat of a bow at the end, after the turmoil throughout the story, and the difficulties that preceded it. This was a fantastic story and a great launch to this new series, but it just seemed to be missing a dash of Rand’s usual flair. Don’t get me wrong, I loved this novel, but it was missing the ‘can’t put it down’ quality that this author usually has. The characters in this novel were quite well developed and fun to get to know. My heart broke for Karlie. Her past would be something very difficult to overcome. I loved the patience and compassion that Lucas has for her, even as he’s trying to work through his own issues. The supporting cast was quite unique as well. Karlie’s best friend definitely made me giggle a time or two, while Craig & Mariesela’s appearance will bring a smile to the faces of all those who enjoyed Rand’s foray into the Devil’s Den. All in all, this was a fantastic, heartfelt, hot & hard hitting novel that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others. I can’t wait to see where Rand goes with this series from here. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this work in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy the damsel in distress trope on occasion, especially if the characters come to grow and let go of some of their past issues as they work toward a new normal. And I had high hopes for Karlie, in seeing that her childhood in foster care left her feeling less than lovable, which led to a longer than is logical relationship with a man who used her low self-esteem to further bully her into staying. Getting up the courage to move on, especially when every fibre of your being is second-guessing your worth is a monumental task, and that alone is admirable. Lucas is a police officer, not content with upholding the law, he’s also got a serious case of protect and rescue when it comes to the obviously distressed, and Karlie ticks off every box. I liked Lucas, even as he occasionally felt overbearing and overly interested in fixing Karlie’s life, as his own wasn’t smooth, as he was in the midst of a custody battle. Exes galore kicking up a fuss, and some serious danger (not just distraction) from Karlie’s ex throws the two together. Sparks fly. Did I think that they were ‘meant to be”, I’m not entirely sure. There was chemistry, but from Karlie’s POV I thought her emotions were more tied to his being ‘nice’ and honest with her. For Lucas, the appearance of his ex’s photo, and the fact that it wasn’t put away / thrown out (even with the child in the mix) kept me thinking (and occasionally humming) it was a Love the One You’re With moment. Their interactions felt real, the steam was there, I just didn’t find all the heart that was spoken of reaching out and grabbing me. Overall, with a twist at the end that was completely unexpected, the story was light and easy, lower in angst than many. An easy introduction to a new series, I just wanted to feel more heart. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

"Loving Lucas" is an emotional read! Well written with plenty of passion, challenges, struggles and finally finding true love. Sparks fly between the H/H, but can they find more than passion in a relationship filled with challenges and struggles, will their HEA prevail. The author entwined passion with many challenges in a well written tale that will keep the reader engaged well into the night. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, otherwise, an enjoyable and satisfying read. Fans of New Adult Romance will enjoy "Loving Lucas". *Received for an honest review from the publisher via Net Galley * Rating: 4.5 Heat rating: Hot Reviewed by: AprilR, courtesy of My Book Addiction and More

Twenty-one-year-old Karlie Augustine is a survivor who had been abused in the past. Enters Lucas to her rescue! He feels the need to protect her, but he is fighting, also, his own battle for custody of his young son. Can love survive under these conditions? It’s a great story for Fall-Winter reading! Enjoy it!

I thought this one was awesome! Definitely steamy with a wonderful romance at the core. Karlie Augustine has had it rough her whole life. Now she's dealing with an abusive boyfriend, but what else can she do. She's homeless and broke without him. Luckily, Lucas Lafontaine witnesses the latest rage and comes to her rescue. Not only that, he offers her a place to live and a job! Soon the spark between them flares but is she ready to trust in him and is he ready to give his heart again??? While there is nothing remotely deep or new to this story, it did keep me entertained and the twists the story took kept me interested. I would recommend this one.

Boring, too much sex too soon just takes away from the whole story!"!!!!! If Karlie was portrayed to be sweet and naive she wouldn't just jump in bed after two days with Lucas!!!! I do not recommend!!!!!
